Fake News -- Despite what is currently on Wikipedia for
Collinsville and what just got printed in the Times Star newspaper
today --- the first newspaper printed in Collinsville was "The
Collinsville News" May 11, 1899 ... not the "Star"
which showed up a few years later. I had the Chamber correct their
web site recently when I saw it mis-stated that the first paper
was the "Star" and they pointed me to Wikipedia as the
source ... but I was not allowed to edit to correct it there. Now,
the Library, in advertising my historic slide show June 14th, has
repeated that mis-information in the printed news which can't be
corrected. -- Ted Wright 5/25/2017 |

The Collinsville HS undergraduate awards
assembly was interrupted by a tornado warning (it hit closer
to Owasso) and students were sent under the bleachers in the locker
rooms of the main gym about 2:10pm and stayed for about 10 minutes
before they were released back to the main gym floor and then finally
given the all-clear and dismissed to go home at 2:30pm. The fire
drill that had been previously scheduled for following the assembly
was not necessary. (Tweet)

118 Years Ago (May
11, 1899) William Lincoln Wright (with help of his son F.A. Wright)
published the very first issue of "The Collinsville News".
The rest of the family was still in Ellsworth, Kansas, preparing
for the move to Collinsville. 18 Years Ago (May 11, 1999) I opened
the "Newspaper Museum In Collinsville" to mark the 100th
anniversary of that newspaper. Just over 14 years ago (March 20,
2003) this cvilleok.com web site uploaded it first pages to the
internet. -- Ted Wright -- May 11, 2017
