Tennis -- We just had our Girls Regionals at Cascia Hall yesterday.
4 of our 6 players qualified for state! It was a great day to be a Cardinal!
#1 Doubles, Laishen Her and Cori Ingram, along with #2 Doubles, Payton
Benham and Ravyn Murphy all qualified for state by placing 4th. Our two
singles players, Allie Dugger and Becky Smith barely missed qualifying,
but did excellent. Both got 5th. With 3 private schools being at this
regional competition, the level of play the Cardinal tennis team put forth
was outstanding! I am so proud of each one of them!

Men's Golf team finished one spot out of state tournament yesterday. The team score was improved by seven strokes over their best score of the year. Cannon Hunt, a freshman, missed qualifying for the tournament as an individual by one stroke. Bailey Stamper qualified for the state tournament for the second consecutive year. Very proud of these boys on a good year, and for playing their best when it mattered most.

Ted Wright Comment:
I was sadded yeaterday (4/30/3016) to hear of the passing of John H. Middleton II. I had last seen him at Blackie Henshall's funeral in March and he looked very frail then. J.H. II's son, J.H. III, was my school and church classmate. J.H. II was one of my youth baseball coaches (along with Bob Williams and Bob Schultheiss) and I have memories of riding with the team in the back of his red pickup to neighboring communities for games. I also remember practicing baseball in a cow pasture behind John Middleton's house and being careful not to step in the cow patties.
I used this (early-1960s?) photo of the Nitehawks at Sallee Field online in 2006 when Bob Williams passed away. Coach Middleton was on the far right. And the 1986 story of his retirement as city engineer was just recently re-published in the Times Star. -- Ted
Years Ago -- From February 19, 1986 "The Collinsville News"
* The retirement of John Middleton II from the engineering firm of Colpitt, Middleton and Nickles marks the end of an era which began on Christmas day of 1899. That was the day John Middleton I arrived in Collinsville. The first John Middleton erected the first stone and first brick buildings on Collinsville's Main Street; was chairman of the city council when Collinsville's light, water and sewer systems were originally installed; drilled gas wells which furnished fuel for the B. Z. and Prime Western Smelters; built an ice plant which supplied the needs of Collinsville and surrounding communities; served as Collinsville's mayor; helped the city in other ways too numerous to mention; stuck it out during the great depression when other businesses were leaving this town in droves; and lived to see his son, John Middleton number two, help get the city back on it's feet during the 1950s.

are now seeking families to host exchange students for the 2016-2017 school
Couples, families and single parents are all welcome to host these students that are 15 to 18 years old and come from places all over the world. Students come with insurance and their own spending money.
You just need to provide a bed for the student (not necessary to have own room), 3 meals a day and a quiet place to study. These students are hoping to have you change their lives, when most times they are the ones changing your lives for the better! Check out http://host.asse.com/ to see more about our amazing organization (including students currently looking for a host family) and fill out an application for more information. These students will come as a stranger and leave as a member of your family that you will never forget. You may also contact a local ASSE Area Representative at rabbittmama@att. for more information.
