Main Street Walk Of Fame To Support Downtown

Collinsville, Oklahoma – On Thursday, September 22, 2011, Collinsville Downtown, Inc. will be hosting the 10th Annual “Taste of Collinsville.” This year C.D.I. is calling for everyone in the community to show their support by lining the streets with personalized stars just like those found on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. For a $20 donation to the Main Street revitalization program, individuals, families, or businesses will have a personalized star placed on the sidewalk during the “Taste of Collinsville.”

“We’d really like to see the whole community get involved with this project. Can you imagine the sense of pride we’d have to be able to look up and down Main Street and see the stars with the names of everyone who loves downtown Collinsville. We might even make the news!” commented Sherry Campbell on the Board of Collinsville Downtown, Inc.

Those interested in making a donation and having a star placed with their name can stop by the C.D.I. office located at the corner of 12th and Main Street. All money raised will go support the Main Street program and stay in the community to promote downtown Collinsville. The mission of Collinsville Downtown, Inc. is to be instrumental in directing the restoration of historical Collinsville to it’s original nostalgic appearance, business fervor, public attraction, and profitability to fit the needs of our contemporary community. This is great way for the public to join them in their mission to make sure that downtown Collinsville continues to thrive.

“There are many ways for the public to get involved with this project. Classrooms can have a star with their teacher and grade placed. Individuals can made a donation in memorial to a loved one who may have been a long time Collinsville resident. The possibilities are endless.” Campbell said.

Families can make it project finding their star that night. The personalized stars will be available to take home the night of the event to frame or display as a reminder of their support to downtown.
The “Taste of Collinsville” includes a culinary sampling of the finest foods and wines from local and area restaurants and wineries. The theme for this year’s event is “Red Carpet on Main Street.” From 5:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. ticket holders can visit Main Street Merchants to taste the finest from participating restaurants who will be serving from the downtown businesses.

Tickets for this year’s event are on sale now at American Bank, Bank of the Lakes, RCB Bank and the Collinsville Downtown, Inc. office located on the N.E. corner of 12th and Main. Ticket Prices are $12 per person; $9 for seniors (65+); $20 per couple; and $25 for a family ticket (2 adults & 2 children). Only a limited number of tickets will be available.

2011 Event Photos

Public Combo Offer
We have a special going now that the public can purchase a personalized star AND a t-shirt for $25! This is the ONLY chance for the public to get one of these commemorative T-shirts. Otherwise they are only available to Merchants on Main Street.

As part of our “Fall…down on Main Street” activities, we are sponsoring a Scarecrow decorating competition. Your local school group, class, church group, youth organization or business can enter as many scarecrows as you want!
Scarecrows can be either adult or child in size. Each should utilize a flannel shirt, jeans or other pants, (overalls are accepted), head, hat or head cover of some kind and should be labeled with the name of the sponsoring organization and contact person.
Scarecrows should be as waterproof as possible since some may be placed outside prior to the festivities and judging. We suggest stuffing plastic trash bags with newspaper, and then stuff this inside the clothing!

For more information, call Maureen Wright the Main Street Director at 371-5530.

What makes a Main Street business successful? There is no single formula. Product, price, display, service location and market all play a part. So does the outward appearance of the business.

Many store owners regard appearance as secondary to the more immediate concerns of price, product and service. Yet experience shows time and time again, that appearance is important to a healthy commercial district. With merchants working together to create an attractive image, the downtown as a whole can benefit. Through the National Main Street Center, the National Trust for Historic Preservation has demonstrated the value of keeping up appearances. Without gimmicks or themes, it has shown how to build resources and strengths that already exist in traditional commercial centers, in not only Collinsville, but across the country.
