Cardinals Reach 4-1 On The Season with 49-0 DIstrict Win At Memorial
Memorial's Homecoming ceremonies at half-time forced the Collinsville Band to perform pre-game at LaFortune Stadium in Tulsa Friday evening. The band will be at the Broken Arrow Marching Contest Saturday. They won their class at the Owasso Contest last week.
Quarterback Kolton Allphin (#1) broke the plane of the endzone and continued straight towards the official to hand him the ball at 8:57 in the first quarter as he capped the Cardinal's opening drive of the game on a 13 yard run. Ashton Jones kicked the extra point for a 7-0 score.
Taylor Olinghouse (#20) reached the 11 yard line with this Kolton Allphin (#1) pass in Collinsville's second possession and scoring drive.
My photo of the second Cardinal TD (scored by Brayden Gilkey from the 4 yard line) just shows a pile of bodies in the endzone with Gilkey not even visible ... so I'll use the extra point photo with Gage Tacker (#84) filling his gap while holder Eli Benham and kicker Ashton Jones take care of business behind him to reach 14-0 at 4:31 in the first quarter. -- Ted
This Cardinal defender made a tackle for loss. Sorry I can't see enough number for an ID. -- Ted
It took three tries for Memorial to get a punt off without a penalty on this second quarter possession. Collinsville ended up with the ball at the Memorial 29 yard line with 1:43 left in the first half.
Kolton Allphin (#1) reached the end zone with 17.5 seconds left in the second quarter on a 6 yard keeper. Jones kicked the extra pont for a 21-0 half-time score.
Kolton Allphin (#1) scored his 3rd TD of the evening on this 21 yard run at 8:08 in the 3rd quarter and a 28-0 tally after Ashton Jones kicked the extra point.
Collinsville defenders were about a foot short of a safety on this third quarter play. The play followed Ashton Jones' kickoff to the 8, a motion penalty to the 4, and a loss to the 3.
This pass rush in the end zone by Andrew Carney (#18) and Joey Rigby (#25) forced an incompletion setting up the scoring opportunity below. Collinsville put the ball in the endzone on three of the next four plays with only the last one counting.
First Eli Benhan ran back a punt which was called back to the 36, then Caden Bouy reached the end zone (above) on a sweep which was called back to the 34. A pass to Andrew Wilson moved the ball to the 31 setting up the Gilkey TD below.
Brayden Gilkey (#42) rushed for 31 yards and the touchdown that counted at 5:14 of the 3rd quarter. The score was 35-0 after the Jones extra point.
Brayden Burd (fresh from knee surgery) will watch the rest of the season from the sidelines.
Jeran Seabolt (#11) had a rough looking landing on this 4th quarter rush but rolled right through it.
Tristan Cottinghim (#41) picked off this 4th quarter Memorial pass at 9:51 in the 4th quarter at their 43 yard line.
Jake Bays (#13) picked off another 4th quarter Memorial pass. This time at the 50 yard line and 8:09 left in the game.
Jeran Seabolt (#11) scored from 3 yards out at 10:33 in the 4th quarter. The score was 42-0 after the extra point.
With about 2 minutes left in the game (from mid-field) Payton Stacy (#24) appeared to break free but the final defender caught just enough ankle to bring him down at the 9 yard line.
Baylor Weathers (#16) covered 9 yards for the final TD with 1:28 left in the game.
Eli Benham (#10) and Ashton Jones (#3) converted all of the extra points with this one good for the final 49-0 score.
The Trap student section and the cheerleaders supported the "construction zone" as the 2019 Football Cardinals continue to build a successful season with progress each week
The 2019 CHS Cheerleaders competed at their 5A State competition last Saturday at ORU but suffered an injury during warmups that prevented them from competing the full performance that they had been working on for months. Even more injuries in the weeks before the competition left them with no substitute. According to their coach Alicia Herald, teams in that situation normally do not perform, but this group toughed it out and did outstanding with the portions of the program that they could. -- Congratulations Ladies!
(Ted Note: I was attending my CHS 1969 50th Anniversary Reunion and have no state cheer photos this year.)
