Cardinals Strong In Home Opener 21-7 Win

QB Baylor Weathers (#16) handoff to Jaren Seabolt (#11) with Cannon Howard (#72) blocking on one of five Seabolt rushes in the Cardinal's 70 yard opening drive. Weathers had 2 keepers in the drive and a motion penalty added 5 yards to the distance.
Jaren Seabolt (#11) ended up on his back in the endzone on a 2 yard run at 7:18 in the first quarter. Ashton Jones kicked the extra point for a 7-0 score.
The Cardinal defense in the first quarter forced a punt and intercepted a pass. Second quarter results were a Ponca City punt and time expired at half..
Collinsville 2nd possession of the game ended with Ponca City intercepting this Andrew Carney pass with 3:31 left in the first quarter (near mid-field). Collinsville got the ball back two plays later (below).
Jaren Seabolt (#11) intercepted Ponca City at the 36 yard line and 3:12 left in the first quarter.
"Hats Off" to the Ponca City defender who held on for this stop of Baylor Weathers as his helmet slid off his head.
Brayden Gilkey (#42) picked up 10 yards reaching Ponca City's 46 near the end of the first quarter.
Collinsville's offensive front with Caden Jones (#70) hiking the ball. The Cardinal's 3rd possession stalled at the 37 late in the first quarter but was extended by a roughing the punter penalty to the 22 yard line.
Baylor Weathers was spotted down inches from the goal on this early 2nd quarter keeper. His next carry got a few inches closer and a Ponca City offside penalty cut that distance in half ... leaving the ball nearly touching the line (below) before the second Cardinal score.
Jaren Seabolt (#11) had a running start from about the 5 yard line to cover that final inch into the endzone at 9:02 in the 2nd quarter and his 2nd TD on the night. Jones' kick make the score 14-0.

Jaren Seabolt (#11) scored his third touchdown in the first half on this 7 yard run with 59 seconds left before half time. Ashton Jones kicked the extra point for a 21-0 score.

Ashton Jones' field goal attempt (left) at the end of Collinsville first possession of the second half was wide of the mark at 8:49 in the 3rd quarter. Ponca City scored the only second half points (right) with 49 seconds left in the 3rd quarter on a 5 yard run making the score 21-7.

Brayden Gilkey (#42) had a potential TD run called back by a penalty as Collinsville ran out the clock on it's final drive of the game.

Collinsville took a knee to run out the final seconds of the game and reach a 2-1 record before district games begin next week.

Friday of game day started earlier than usual with students out in big numbers to represent Collinsville at a 6am KTUL Channel 8 Pep Rally with televised segments during the morning news. The band had been there also before this group photo, but left to start their morning practice.
