CHS Football At Bartlesville
Cardinals Won 20-17
in Week 2 Overtime
Late Gilkey Pick 6 To Reach Overtime
Jeran Seabolt scored on a seven yard run on the last play of the game to give Collinsville a 20-17 overtime win at Bartlesville. Before an interception and TD return by Brayden Gilkey with 2:22 left in regulation, it appeared Collinsville had run out of opportunities to pull out a win, trailing 7-14 and having just lost a fumble to Bartlesville. Brayden Burd scored Collinsville's first half touchdown. Ashton Jones converted both extra points and missed a field goal attempt by just inches.
The Trap (student section) and Cheerleaders rocked the tie-dye theme for Friday night football.
I was reminded of the song lryic "the marching band refused to yield" as Collinsville players were lined up for the opening kickoff but the Bartlesville band still occupied the south end of the field waiting for the Bartlesville players to make their entry to the field. -- Ted
Eli Benham (#10) stopped Bartlesville's opening possession with this interception on just the 3rd play from scrimmage, at Collinsville's 46 yard line.
Baylor Weathers (#16) directed the Cardinal offense in the first half.
Defensive line charge.
Brayden Buud (#22) scored on this 11 yard run at 6:57 in the first quarter and Ashton Jones kicked the extra point to put Collinsville up 7-0 on their second possession (which started at Bartlesville's 33 yard line). Bartlesville answered with a 63 yard drive on their next possession to tie at 7-7 with 5:30 left in the first quarter.
Offensive line.
Gabe Lyon (#40) setting the edge for this Jeran Seabolt (#11) rush.
Andrew Wilson (#8) caught this Baylor Weathers pass at Bartlesville's 42 yard line on a Cardinal drive that later stalled late in the first quarter.
Baylor Weathers (#16) punted from near mid-field and the ball bounced inside the 10 yard line but then rolled into the end zone ... much to the dismay of Coach Kevin Jones who felt his punt coverage could have pinned Bartlesville deep instead of letting them start at the 20 late in the first quarter. The Cardinal defense did hold them there and forced a Bartlesville punt (below, nearly blocked by Joey Rigby) to mid-field as the quarter ended.
Collinsville started the second quarter with a drive that reached Bartlesville's 23 yard line before Ashton Jones' field goal attempt at 7:37 in the 2nd quarter hit the front top portion of the cross bar but bounced back instead of over the bar leaving the score tied at 7-all. Bartlesville went 80 yard on their next possession to take a 7-14 lead with 4:24 left before half-time.
Nate Wilkins (#32) with a second quarter stop.
Andrew Carney (#18) directed the Cardinal offense in the second half at Bartlesville.
Collinsville's defense held Bartlesville scoreless in the second half (regulation time) with this fumble recovery stopping their initial 3rd quarter possession.
Collinsville also went scoreless most of the second half and opportunities looked slim for making up the touchdown deficit until Brayden Gilkey (#42) picked off a Bartlesville pass near mid-field and returned it for a Cardinal touchdown with 2:22 left in the 4th quarter. -- (Video Tweet)
Ashton Jones (#3) kicked the critical extra point (after Gilkey's pick-6) to even the score at 14-14.
With 10 seconds left in regulation Bartlesville had reached Collinsville's 30 yard line. On the next play, Nate Wilkins recoved a fumble at the 23 to prevent the Bruins from attempting a last second regulation win.
In overtime, Bartlesville had the first opportunity from the 10 yard line with Collinsville holding them to a 4th and 6 field goal. Collinsville followed with Seabolt and Carney rushes to the 7, setting up 3rd and 7, which they converted with Jeran Seabolt's (#11) TD run for the win at 20-17. Seabolt had almost cleared the last defender in this photo just before Payton Russel (#36) gave him a healthy shove to ensure the touchdown and even the season record at 1 & 1..
