CHS Football -vs- Memorial
2017 Varsity Football Cardinals Won 35-10 On Pink-Out Night
Daniel Malon Flew In
CHS Sophomore Daniel Malon continues his fight with cancer ... but does not stand alone.
Daniel Malon arrived in the Life Flight helicopter to deliver the game ball during pre-game. Allie Dugger shows off one of the Cardinal windows raffled off to help the Malon family.
Each Cardinal football player entered the field holding a United States of America flag.
Jim Riley Tweet -- Oct 14th -- Thanks to American Bank for providing the American flags for a special Cardinal run in. It's Good to be a Cardinal.
The eighth grade band participated with the High School band at Sallee Field Friday ... which always delights Coach Tom Redding.
Daniel Malon was an honorary captain Friday (along with Spencer Oslin, Carson Stout, Hayden West and Nate Sinni) and tossed the coin.
Although "The Trap" appears to be offering a toast with their "drinks", it is actually cups of pink powder preparing for the student section toss at the opening kickoff.
Jake Tuttle (#21) is off on a long run in the Cardinal's first possession (from the Collinsville 40 all the way down to the Memorial 13) but Collinsville fumbled the ball to Memorial 2 plays later. Memorial had kicked a field goal on the game's first possession. Collinsville's 2nd possession also ended with a fumble.
Jake Tuttle (#21) finally got Collinsville on the scoreboard with 12 seconds left in the first quarter. Jake carried the final 14 yards and after Ashton Jones' PAT kick the Cards were on top 7-3.
Malcom Tillman is getting ready to take the handoff from Carson Stout and rush 18 yards for Collinsville's second score with 8:56 left in the 2nd quarter. Aston Jones' extra point made the score 14-3.
Cardinal defender appeared to line up and take a number for this Memorial stop.
Following a blocked Collinsville punt, Memorial had the ball knocked loose by Carter Lowe (#25) and recovered by Kenlee Hall (#42) about 2 minutes before the half.
The Collinsville QB Club has been working on several fundraisers (including selling pink shirts) and handed the Malon family a check for more than $7,000 and also passed the bucket at this game for another $1000. All to help with on-going medical expenses for Daniel's cancer treatments.
The elementary and middle school cheerleaders performed their routine at halftime.
The Collinsville Crimson Cadet band will be at OBA Saturday (at Yukon) then BOA (at St. Louis) next week during fall break, performing their "Wild" (west) marching routine.
Jake Tuttle (#21) stretches for extra 3rd quarter yardage.
Malcom Tillman (#24) takes the handoff from Carson Stout (#2) on his way to the one yard line , and scored on the next play with 3:13 left in the 3rd quarter.
Ashton Jones (#20) kicked all the extra points (this one to make it 21-3).
With under two minutes left in the 3rd quarter, Hayden West (#33) fielded a short Memorial punt near the 35 yard line and met very little resistance to his left on his way to the endzone and another Cardinal touchdown. The extra point kick made the score 28-3.
Seth Weiser (#6) kicked off for the Cardinals.
Brayden Burd (#22) was a jersey grab from behind from breaking free on this 4th quarter run but did reach the 14 yard line setting up the final Collinsville score.
Carson Stout (#2) sprinted left and had one defender to beat as he scored from six yards out with 6:08 left in the game. Jones kicked the extra point to reach a 35-3 score.
The CHS cheerleaders took turns doing 35 flips to match the Collinsville points on the scoreboard.
Payton Russell (#36) scooped up a Memorial fumble and returned it Memorial's 22 yard line with about 5 minutes left in the game. Collinsville later fumbled it back at the six yard line and Memorial connected on a 92 yard pass play for the final 35-10 score.
