CHS Football -vs- Bishop Kelley
2017 Varsity Football Cardinals Suffered
6-24 District Loss
The Collinsville band marched before the game (due to Bishop Kelley's Homecoming at half-time) and with the sun lit photos and the first time I've seen the new plumes ... I have selected more than usual to publish and rather than bury football ... will use this sample here and put the rest in the traditional halftime (mid) position on this page. -- Ted Wright -- And by the way, the band looks and sounds great. They will compete at their first contest next Saturday at Owasso.
Grayson Boomer (#18) made his first appearance of the year and made an immediate impact with a sack on BK's first series bringing up a 4th and 13.
Sophomore Cole Dugger (#12) got his first ever varsity start at quarterback and led the Cardinals on a 70 yard scoring drive in their first offensive series. The distance covered was more than 70 yards as the Cards had to overcome a bad snap loss, a motion and an offensive interference penalty and also converted two 4th down plays on the drive.
With two Bishop Kelley Comets on their backs Jake Tuttle (#21) is about to reach the 50 yard line to convert the first 4th down try for Collinsville.
Malcom Tillman (#24) broke free to move Collinsville from the 50 to the BK 33 in the Cards scoring series.
Cole Dugger (#12) launched this 1st series pass towards Grayson Boomer (below).
Grayson Boomer (#18) made the catch but the play was brought back (on an offensive interfence call) to mid-field.
Walker Roberts (#23) made up a chunk of the yardage (after the interference call) with this Dugger pass.
Hayden West (#33) dove and stretched out to pick up a first down at the 22 yard line on a 4th and 6th play (with a pass from Dugger).
Jake Tuttle (#21) covered the final 22 yards in the Cardinals only scoring drive. The final yard was a wrestling match with a BK defender trying to pull the ball away as Tuttle was able to get the ball just over the goal line at 4:07 in the first quarter. The extra point kick was blocked and Collinsville led 6-0.
Braden Burd (#22) and Malcom Tillman (#24) have this play defended.
Hayden Knight (#52 on the sidelines) gets airborne as it looked like Walker Roberts (#23) would be able to hang on to this Cole Dugger pass late in the first quarter. The BK defender broke up the pass and Collinsville needed to punt (see below).
Cale Hutchens punted the ball for Collinsville which was stopped just inches from the goal line by Carson Stout (#2) with 23 seconds left in the first quarter. Bishop Kelley was able to gain a few yards and punt out of their own endzone. The two teams spent most of the 2nd quarter trading punts.
Cole Dugger was sacked (and injured) with about nine minutes left in the 2nd quarter.
The Cardinal defense nearly shut out the Comets in the first half but Bishop Kelley kicked a field goal on the final play of the half (after an interception in the final minute).
Tate Robards (#8) was the Cardinal quarterback to finish out the game, with a handoff to Tillman late in the 2nd quarter.
Walker Roberts (#23) forced a fumble on this 3rd quarter BK run but the ball rolled out of bounds before the Cardinals could recover.
Colton Allphen (#1) wrestled the ball away from the BK ball carrier on this 3rd quarter play but the officials ruled forward progress had stopped and the whistle blown before the steal. Collinsville was trailing 6-10 at this point. On the next series Collinsville pinned BK deep again with another punt to the one yard line. Unfortunately BK covered 99 yards (the last 51 on a pass) to go up 6-17 with 1:16 left in the 3rd quarter. Kelley scored again on a 17 yard pass with 14.5 seconds left in the 3rd quarter. The 4th quarter was scoreless.
Hayden West (#33) and Malcom Tillman (#24) both had a chance for this interception. Tillman came down with it with 3:10 left in the game. Coach Tom Redding can either "Coach 'em Up" or Fix 'em Up.
