As the city neared the end of 2004 it had hired Jim Whitlock as City Manager. A few months into the job Mr. Whitlock died from a heart attack. |

In the Dec. 15, 2004 photo above the steel for the new Fire/EMS building was still on the truck (in the foreground) and the ambulances were still housed in the old "barn" (in the background). | ||

Even when it wasn't the main story I often used the old grain elevator as a reference point in my downtown photos. |

The middle school location was cleared of older buildings and the footings poured by the end of 2004 and students were in the new building by mid-August 2005. | |||

The photo above shows the still roofless City Hall building in December 2004. A year later the building is nearing completion. |
The Christian Church was destroyed by fire in May 2004. They were back in their new church building by June 2005. |
