State Runners-Up: Wrestlers, Winter Guard, Golf Girls &
Band |
From my perspective
no single story rises to be the single "story of the year"
level but again the commulative overall continued excellence of Collinsville
High School "Activities" is my co-top story for 2017. The
other top story category is "Change" in Collinsville.
Activity
success was topped by a regional championship for the Collinsville Crimson
Cadet Band at the St. Louis "Bands of America" marching competition.
The other CHS "championship" was the cheerleaders bringing
home the top academic trophy for the 4th year in a row. State runner-up
trophies were brought home by the wrestlers, golf girls, winter guard
and band (OBA).
Change was
exemplified by the near loss of the Silver Dollar Cafe (after a car
crashed the front facade which is now nearly restored), the loss of
the Clark Building (former Sale Barn) which will be replaced by a different
type business in 2018, and several improvement projects: city plaza,
Center Street project (3 blocks of paving & sidewalks), and completion
of two bridge replacements..
