CHS Football -vs- Coweta
Cards Overcame 2nd Quarter Mistakes For District Win
Zane McElroy Back At QB
Many Cardinals fans wore purple & gold to show support for Hannah Helping Hand's efforts to raise awareness of childhood cancer.
Senior QB Zane McElroy (#4) saw his first game action of 2013 against Coweta after rehabbing from pre-season surgery during the first 6 games of this season.
Collinsville reached Coweta's 44 yard line on their opening drive before this Zane McElroy punt that was downed at Coweta's 1 yard line.
Dylan Cook (#18) caught this Zane McElroy pass for the first of several 4th down conversion for the Cardinals Thursday evening. This one reached the 9 yard line on the last play of the first quarter.
Keenan Hamilton (#20) looked like he may have caught this Zane McElroy pass in the endzone on the 2nd play of the 2nd quarter. The referees did not allow the catch but did rule inteference on the Coweta defender and placed the ball at the 5 yard line.
Marcus Redwine (#3) scored on a 2 yard 4th & goal run for the first (of many) 2nd quarter points. Sergio Perez kicked the extra point and Collinsville had a 7-0 lead.
Coweta backed up Collinsville with a punt to the Card's 5 yard line at 7:37 in the 2nd quarter. On the first Cardinal offensive play a low snap into the endzone was somehow kicked out near the 5 yard line where a Coweta defender scooped it up for a short defensive touchdown return. Their extra point tied the score at 7-7.
Zane McElroy put Collinsville back in the lead with this 34 yard keeper at 6:20 in the 2nd quarter. Marcus Tillman's kickoff return to Coweta's 40 and a 6 yard pass to Dylan Cook set up the quick Cardinal score. Perez's kick made the score 14-7.
Confusion -- An official blew the whistle on what appeared to still be a live play (and fumble recovered by Collinsville) on the Cardinal's kickoff. The play was eventually negated and Collinsville had to rekick. Coweta then drove 70+ yards to tie the score at 14-14 with 3:01 left in the 2nd quarter.
This Zane McElroy (#4) pass from mid-field ended up in Dylan Cook's hands (#18 below) ...
Dylan Cook (#18) completed a 52 yard touchdown pass play with 1:59 left in the 2nd quarter. Perez's extra point kick made the score 21-14.
Collinsville's lead disappeared quickly as Coweta returned the Cardinal kickoff for a TD with 1:45 left before half-time and the score tied at 21-21.
Another Cardinal error (a fumble on the first play after Coweta's kickoff recovered at Collinsville's 25) led to another quick Coweta touchdown (a 3 yard run) with 33.3 seconds left in the first half. Their extra point set the score at 21-28. The blur of action above came on the final Coweta extra point.
This photo shows about half of the balloons released by purple clad HHH supporters at halftime.
A new twist in the band's 2013 "Macabre" marching program was revealed this week with a zombi-like field entry. Next week the Crimson Cadets will preform for contest judges twice (OSSAA Wed. Oct 23rd at Broken Arrow & OBA Sat. Oct. 26th at Mustang).
Zane McElroy (#4) completed a 67 yard drive to open the 2nd half with this 21 yard scamper at 8:34 in the 3rd quarter. Sergio Perez added the extra point to tie the score at 28-28.
After trading several 3rd quarter punts ... Coweta fumbled a McElroy punt which was recovered by Collinsville at the 30 yard line late in the 3rd quarter.
Ryan Haymaker (#25) scored the go-ahead touchdown from 6 yards out with 1:01 remaining in the 3rd quarter. Perez's extra point set what would be the eventual final score at 35-28.
Neither team scored in the 4th period.

Collinsville has had different starting quarterbacks in the last three games and three wins. I think a shout out to Coach McClure should be inserted here along with one for these three talented athletes. Koscheski (#1) started the first 5 games. Lowe (#2) finished the Grove double OT win and started the Central win last week. McElroy (#4) saw his first action of the year starting tonight in the win over Coweta. Koscheski says he should be back in uniform next week. -- Ted Wright
Collinsville is now 5-2 with wins over Skiatook, Oologah, Grove, Central and Coweta. .. (but losses to Catoosa and Claremore).
The Cardinals' remaining schedule has East Central at home plus Pryor and Tahlequah on the road.
