Zane McElroy (#4) scored the game's first points on this keeper on 4th and 1 from the 11 yard line at 7:57 in the first quarter. Athen Shambrook's kick was good for a 7-0 lead.
Coweta matched all but one of the Cardinals TD. This was a 7 yard keeper at 3:55 in the first quarter two plays after a Cardinal fumble at the 16.
I selected this photo for 3 reasons:
* A T. J. Johnson pass catch (behind the official) out to the 42 (from the 15) after the score was tied 7-7.
* To note the "BP" on the back of a Cardinal helmet in memory of Coach Brian Phillips who passed away last Friday
* To note the extremely narrow visitor's sideline at Coweta (~5-6 yards) which had very little room for the football team, chain gang, cheerleaders, and me. -- Ted
A McElroy punt had pinned Coweta at the 2 yard line early in the 2nd quarter. This pass rush by Carter Rasmussen (#85) and Newt Salisbury (#66) forced an incompletion on 3rd down and forced Coweta to punt from their endzone which Conner Crutchfield fair caught at the Coweta 38 setting up the second Collinsville score.
Hunter West (#33) reached the Coweta 10 yard line with a 16 yard carry. Two McElroy keepers had the Cards to the 6 before a false start moved the ball back to the 11 setting up TJ's TD (left).
T. J.Johnson (#6) didn't have full control of this 11 yard McElroy pass when he was hit by the defender in the endzone but managed to hang on for a touchdown with 5:47 left in the 2nd quarter. Shambrook's kick made the score 14-7.
Coweta had tied the score at 14-14 with 2:10 left on the first half clock (with a 70 yard drive). Collinsville received that kickoff at their own 23 but moved quickly on two McElroy keepers and a 29 yard to Keenan Hamilton ... setting up the 29 yard TD pass to T.J. Johnson (above) with 49.5 seconds left in the half. Shambrook's PAT kick put Collinsville up 21-14.
Coweta attempted a field goal (from Collinsville's 30) as time expired on the 2nd quarter and didn't miss by much. The half-time score was 21-14.
Newt Salisbury (#66) sacked the Coweta QB for a 7 yard loss slowing down Coweta's 1st possession of the 2nd half.
Collinsville's first possession in the 2nd half started at their own 16 yard line but a McElroy keeper to the 42 and this Conner Crutchfield (#11) run to the 1 yard line set up a Hunter West TD (below).
Hunter West scored from 1 yard out with 8:41 left inthe 3rd quarter. Shambrook's kick set the score at 28-14.
It appeared the Coweta defender had a chance for an interception on this 3rd quarter pass but T.J. Johnson (#6) came up with another difficult catch (off his helmet) instead. This was in the Cardinal possession after Coweta had tightened the score to 28-21 (at 5:59 in the 3rd).
Cole Keim (#67) and Colby Cole (#61) were just two of the offensive limeman clearing a path for either Hunter West or Conner Crutchfield taking handoffs from Zane McElroy (#4).
This 4th down attempt (with and 10 yards to go from near Coweta's 34) could have taken a lot of pressure off the Cardinals. The trick play (a Chace Wilkins pass to Zane McElroy) was incomplete giving Coweta the ball with 8 minutes left in the game.
Shawn Koscheski (#1) was defending on this Coweta 4th down pass attempt which fell incomplete giving Collinsville back the ball with under 4 minutes left. Coweta had reached the Card's 18 before a Rasmussen sack and a motion penalty backed them up to the 26.
Coweta had one last chance with the ball at their own 24 with 9.3 second left in the game but Carter Rasmussen (#85) intercepted a pass and ran it back near Coweta's goal as time expired.
The 6 win - 1 loss Cardinals travel to East Central next Thursday (during fall break).
