1st Round 5A Playoff Loss
With Temperatures in the Mid-70s
The Cardinal defense kept McAlester off the scoreboard in the first half.
T.J. Johnson (#6 above) was congratulated by teammates after downing a Zane McElroy punt at the 1 yard line. On the next play Carter Rasmussen (#85 right) hit the quarterback in the endzone and the ball rolled out of the endzone for a safety at 9:50 in the 2nd quarter.
Conner Crutchfield (#11) scored the only Collinsville touchdown at 8:31 in the 2nd quarter. Conner started near the McAlester 43 yard line (left) and finished in the endzone (above). Shambrook's kick had the Cardinals up 9-0.
Collinsville was building 2nd quarter monenutum with a 9-0 lead and knocking the ensuing kickoff free with a big hit and recovering at the McAlester 44 with Brandon Lowe (#2 right) and Conner Crutchfield combining on the play.
Collinsville had two excellent opportunities to increase their 2nd quarter lead. T.J. Johnson (#6 above) hauled in a pass from Derek Iannapollo (who had slipped in the lineup and taken a handoff from Zane McElroy). The play followed the kickoff recovery and reached the 10 but was nullified by offsetting penalties (ineligible receiver downfield and pass interference). A few plays later Zane McElroy (#4 above right) took off on a keeper from about the 31 and was inside the 10 (right) when the ball was knocked loose and recoved by McAlester at the 3.
Shawn Koscheski (#1) intercepted a McAlester pass to protect the 9-0 half time Cardinal lead following a flurry of McAlester passes in the final few minutes before halftime.
Neither band marched but the Collinsvile Crimson Cadet band entertained from the stands and later on the track.
The Collinsville Cheerleaders also entertained before a nice sized Collinsville crowd that had traveled "half-way to Texas" to cheer on their Cardinals.
McAlester came out for the 2nd half and quickly erased the Collinsville lead and capatilized on several Cardinal fumbles. McAlester scores:
(9-7) -- 32 yard TD run at 11:01 3rd quarter
(9-13) -- 85 yard TD run at 9:42 3rd quarter
(9-19) --2 yard TD run at 11:29 4th quarter
(9-22) -- Field Goal at 8:49 4th quarter
(9-29) -- 3 yard TD run at 3:45 4th quarter
I believe Keenan Halimton (#20) drew an interference flag on this 2nd half pass play.
Derek Iannapollo (#10) covered from the 15 out to the 46 on this 4th quarter keeper.
According to the game stats provided by Roy Weathers: Collinsville had a total of 193 total yards (McAlester had 354)

CHS Football Cardinals travel to McAlester Friday
for 1st round 5A playoff game

-- Please be downtown by 2:45pm Friday to cheer them on their way out of town. The football team will be in charter buses. The early school dismissal is to allow bus routes to complete in time for the band and cheer busses to free up for the McAlester trip. -- Ted 11/8/2012
