I'll be interested to see how the crosswalks for the middle school crossing at 15th & Main will appear during the 180-day project which will change Main from 2 to 4-lanes from the Nursing home to 14th. I have not heard a followup since the last Mark Fenton meeting where "Safe Routes To School" appeared to gain some traction here. -- Ted Wright 6/8/2011

Several blocks near the S-Curve have changed dramatically since 2007. This view looking west from near 17th Street shows the laundramat, gas station (below), home and trees that are now gone.

Mother Nature even contributed to the S-Curve clearing of trees (as well as trees in the rest of Collinsville) during the ice storm in December 2007.

Several homes south & west of the S-Curve were moved away early in 2008.
A portion of Main Street was reduced to a single usable lane today as dirt was loaded into trucks from the future additional lane west of 14th St. Tuesday June 7th, 2011.
Several large trees were cut down Monday and were being cut into smaller pieces Tuesday for removal. These trees had been on the former Willie Pattison residence between 18th &19th Street adjacent to the S-Curve.
The old utility poles had been removed by Tuesday evening when this photo was taken (facing east) from the west end of the project. The new poles are farther north allowing for the wider roadway now under construction.
The few homes with front driveways facing Main in the construction zone will likely have varying access during the scheduled 180-day project. Many other homes have access from the alley instead.
With the former home, businesses and trees cleared for the new path of the S-Curve, the 2-story Hille home is more clearly visible from west of 19th Street near the curve.
