Ted Wright -- last update 7/06/2011 (S-CurveDetours.html) www.cvilleok.com

Copyright 2011 -- Collinsville, Oklahoma
When the new S-Curve / Highway 20 re-alignment project reaches phase II, the west half of the old curve will be barricaded and traffic will flow through the old 19th & Broadway intersection. From there traffic can either use Broadway or the old east half of the old curve to get back to the existing Main Street. In that configuration (with the southern portion of 19th Street blocked) construction will proceed on the portion of the new curve west of 19th Street. A temporary detour (south of both the old & new curves) will be built for the next phase III below. Exact dates of these transitions are not yet identified by ODOT/Contractor but will be relayed to the public when the city is notified. There is a note on the drawings: "Driveway access will be open and maintained at all times."
Access to 19th Street between Main & Oak will be restricted during the next phase of detours while the new 4-lane roadway east of 19th is completed. All portions of the old curve will be out of use at this point.
This drawing shows details for the final configuration where the new 4-lane "curve" crosses 19th Street at a signaled intersection. There is no Broadway west beyond 19th but west bound Broadway traffic can turn south and use a new lane to follow Highway 20 west (or go north or south on 19th). (More of this drawing from Dec. 2008)
Note: I added the color coding to the construction drawing provided by the city.
I hope I have intrepreted them correctly. -- Ted Wright 7/6/2011
HWY 20 Construction Update -- STATUS UPDATES HIGHWAY 20 ALIGNMENT -- 7/01/11

As many citizens realize, there are road crews working on highway 20. They are working on the project known as the highway 20 alignment. Those that live in Collinsville will recognize it as “Straightening of the S-curve”. This curving stretch of road has been a safety hazard for a long time. The city was involved in relocating the city electric poles and lines, however the project is the Oklahoma Department of Transportation’s not the City of Collinsville. ODOT’s project officially began with the notice to proceed on May 31st and is slated for 180 day completion. In an effort to keep citizens informed, we will update information concerning the ongoing project on a regular basis. Please check back.

Two week projection on Highway 20:

Oklahoma Department of Transportation’s contracted road crews continue to finish up the detour lanes between 14th street and 17th street as well as the north side of highway 20 between 20th street and 22nd Street. The crews are completing the asphalt overlay on these detour lanes. When the asphalt facet is completed the lanes will be striped and traffic will be channeled onto the lanes. East bound traffic will be channeled to 19th & Broadway and may either continue east on Broadway or turn south on 19th and back onto Main Street. West bound traffic on Main Street will also be channeled through 19th Street to the Broadway intersection where traffic then may continue west .

Earthwork will continue to take place between 18th Street and 20th Street as the future alignment route begins to take shape.

The City will continue to update any new information concerning detours as that information becomes available.
