Collinsville
Patchworkers August Meet
|
Mary Wood shows off a recently completed quilt, while Linda Jenkins enjoys the view! |
The Collinsville
Patchworkers met August 10 at the Library, and welcomed guest Jolene Beattie.
Visitor Jeanie Barnes spoke to the group, asking them to consider creating
another fund-raiser quilt for the Education Foundation, and discussion
was held regarding an upcoming "road trip" to explore the Marshall
Dry Goods store in Batesville, AR. Audrey Engles announced that this year's Silent Auction for the Library will have a "Christmas Basket" theme; and Janice Coke gave a helpful demonstration on using some of the new rulers on the market. The next meeting for the Patchworkers is scheduled for September 8, 2010. -- Submitted by Linda Pfeffer (8/16/2010) |
Bud McAfee
To Head
Tri-County Fair Parade Saturday |
Bud (Marion) McAfee (right) and his wife Willamae (left) greeted TV Weatherman Jim Giles at the April 2003 Collinsville Chamber of Commerce meeting. |
When the parade
for the 65th Annual Collinsville Tri-Country begins Saturday August
21, 2010, at 10am, the procession will be headed by Grand Marshall Bud
McAfee. He is being honored for the many years he (and his wife) contributed
to the 4-H programs in Collinsville. Bud and Willamae started their
work with the local 4-H in 1960 and that continued until Willamae's
death in 2005 and a lesser role for Bud after that. Willamae McAfee was the "Honored Volunteer" at the 1986 Fair. Bud and Willamae had four children active in 4-H and also CHS graduates (Linda, Donna, Merrilete and Don). Bud is retired and a lifetime member of both the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. |
Thirty
Years In Business -- My August 1980 archived
copies of the news are missing (I hope that just means mis-labeled ...
instead of permanently gone) but I did find this ad from early September
1980 and a 1983 prediction on Collinsville future by Darren. I wasn't
in Oklahoma during 1983 but apparently the race track deal fell through.
