Suggestions Welcomed
Some things we would like in the skatepark are a half pipe, some tabletops with rails or benches, and a stair set with a handrail and some quarter pipes. My name is Jimmy ... I am one of the skaters (3-5-2009)
Detailed plans are still pending for the skate park, splash park, and new playground equipment in the park. Please send your suggestions to me at wrightted@aol.com and I will share them with the community and the park board. -- Ted Wright

Voters in Collinsville's city limits will decide April 7th if they are willing to increase the local sales tax to fund several Collinsville improvements. On the list of proposed improvements is a skate park to be located in the Collinsville City Park. Several of the Collinsville youngsters who would be glad to have an approved place to skate gathered for a group photo Thursday March 5th in the park.

I hope to build a page similar to this for each type of proposed improvements before the April vote. -- Ted Wright

Proposed Improvements
Park Improvements $1,230,000
Asphalt Street Overlay (~3.3 miles)
$500,000
Jail $500.000
2 More Blocks of Downtown Sreetscape $300,000 (grant match only)
Bridge Repairs $300,000
Sidewalk to Park $100,000
15% Contingency
$439,500
Proposed Sales Tax Increase
To fund the improvements above and possible others.
A new 3/4 cent sales tax for 20 years.
A 10 year extension of an existing 1 cent sales tax set to expire in approximately 10 years.
Collinsville's total sales tax would become 9.25% (currently 8.517%)
It has been my observation that Collinsville skateboarders will skate just about anywhere but not for very long in one place and then quickly move elsewhere as they are not "welcome" at most locations. Giving up half of our sidewalk width (for a center turn lane) has increased the pedestrian safety concerns downtown. -- Ted
