AMERICAN JUNIOR SHORTHORN ASSOCIAITON ANNOUNCES NEW MEMBERSHIP

Area Youth Becomes Member of the AJSA

OMAHA, Neb., (February 9, 2009) – The American Junior Shorthorn Association (AJSA) is proud to announce the recent membership of Michaela Branen from Collinsville, OK.

“The AJSA is a great organization for youth in the livestock industry to be involved with, giving them an opportunity to gain knowledge and leadership skills, while having fun and making friends across the country,” says Julie Blunier, Director of Junior Activities for the American Shorthorn Association (ASA).

The mission of the ASA is to contribute to the profitability and quality of life of its members and their customers by maintaining, protecting the vulnerability and enhancing the value of the herd book and performance database for Shorthorn cattle. The ASA is headquartered in Omaha, Neb., and was founded in 1872 with herd book records going back to 1822. As one of the oldest American breed associations, the ASA provides services for more than 6,000 junior and senior members who register nearly 18,000 cattle annually.

The AJSA was formed in 1968 and is now one of the largest youth organizations in the beef industry, while promoting personal development through youth activities and educational events. The AJSA is dedicated to the betterment of its members, promotes valuable skills, and fosters friendships that will last a lifetime. To become a member or to learn more, contact the ASA office or visit www.shorthorn.org.

New Park Board Initial Meeting
Barbara Tarter (of LandPlan Consultants) gave a quick overview (to the new park board Monday) of the city park master plan (paid for in 2005 with Vision 2025 funds) with recent updates for a splash pad & skate park detail. The 2005 plan included a pool and many other features but no funding to pay for them. The revised plan is scaled back to cover just a few of the features to match possible funding if voters approve a sales tax vote April 7th. (See related story elsewhere on this page)
The board members present included Dee Sink, Rusty Poindexter, Joe Ogden, and Ted Wright. Pam Webb could not attend. The board's only action was to approve the latest park concept. It is anticapted that the board will be involved in refining the concept into a more specific design and providing recommendations to the city commission. The next meeting is set for Monday Feb. 23 (5:30 at City Park).
Park Suggestions: This new board is still trying to figure out exactly what it is we are supposed to be doing ... but one thing I hope to accomplish is to gather opinions from citizens on what they want in their city park and how they would like it operated. Those suggestions would be passed on to the park board and possibly the city commission as decision are make for the park in the next few years. Please email me your thoughts (to wrightted@aol.com) or directly to your city commissioner. There will also likely be some community meeting in the next few months where public opinion would be also appreciated. -- Ted Wright (2/10/2009)
Big Time Tournament
Ted ~ The Collinsville 4th grade girls basketball team went to Stillwater this past weekend and played in a tournament called "Big Time Tournament". The girls had to play a very hard game against a team from Chandler and the girls showed all of us parents and coaches that they are dedicated and are winners. The girls went undefeated in the tournament. Susie and I are very proud of you.

Thank you for posting Ted ~

Sales Tax Information Meeting
A citizens group met Tuesday Feb. 10, 2009 to hear an overview of the proposed sales tax that Collinsville voters will decide on April 7th, 2009. The city can provide information to the public on the tax proposal and what capital improvements would result from the new/extended revenue. Some members of this group of citizens (with private funding) will be pushing for approval of the tax proposal. I will attempt to include all the details I become aware of in the months leading up to the vote but won't attempt in the limited space left on this page. The policy of this cvilleok.com web site is to provide equal space to an organized opposing group for unpaid information when a position is recommended (i.e Vote Yes or Vote No). Paid advertising is obviously based only on payment and will be tagged as such. -- Ted
