I haven't had a chance to look through the archives yet but recall earlier this summer a discussion at the city budget meeting that a GRDA rate increase was anticipated sometime during the year. -- Ted 8/9/2009

Have you received any complaints on extremely high electric bills? Everyone I have talked to (friends and family) have said they are double what they normally are in the summer time. Mine was also 2x times more than normal and I was on Vacation for 10 days. Was just curious.- D.R. (Saturday 8/8/2009)
Ted Wright Note: My city bill seemed in normal range but will put out the question for others (city or rural). Saturday 8/8/2009
Sunday 8/9/2009: I have another email complaining about high electric bills but I will not use yet as they did not compare to a similar month or similar usage. I'm sure many are unhappy with the rate they pay, but the question here is if there is a billing anomaly? -- Ted 8/9/2009
Sunday 8/9/2009: Our house is all electric. We have been noticing and making phone calls to VVEC since winter to complain about the high price of our electric bill. We have been using less electricity (by about 1/4) and still seen an increase in our bill. The difference is in what they call the PCA, Power Cost Adjustment....the amount they charge extra per kilowatt because of "rising fuel prices". My question is why has the PCA over the last 4-5 years been .00034 of a cent even when gas prices were rising to close to $4 per gallon. Fues prices have fallen, but the PCA began rising dramatically each month beginning in the winter of this past year. As of last month the PCA was .02318. That is over 2 cents for each kilowatt. Take a look at your bills. You will not see the PCA even get close to 1/2 cent for as far back as I have records but now they need 2.3 cents!!? I believe it should be investigated. What is the extra money going to? And who authorizes these increases every month?
I hope that someone can help to determine this, as I believe the consumer is being gouged. -- DH

Sunday 8/9/2009: Ted, I have been reading the comments on the utility bills and I thought I would email you. I received my bill last week and immediately told my wife that I thought the bill was a little higher than usual considering how the I recently paid for two months and it came out to be $246.00. This months bill was $198.00. I went over and discussed it with my landlord and she said that her bill was also high. She said that an empty house of hers had a higher sewer bill than the one that she lives in. Seems to be a little crazy. -- G.P.
Tuesday 8/11/2009: My bill at home this month was 39% higher than the same month in 2008. -- B.S.
Tuesday 8/18/2009:My city electric bill was $50.00 higher this month. Because I am recovering from 2 surgeries and keeping my thermostat at 79 degrees and sweating profusely I feel something has to be wrong. -- M.P.
Thursday 8/21/2009: I keep all of my utility bills and have the last two years on my desk. Last month my bill was $430.00 That is almost $150.00 higher than it was last year. The amount of electric used is almost exactly the same but the cost is approximately 30% higher. I live inside the city so I sent a written request to the city asking them to check my meter and give me an explanation for the dramatic increase but I received no answer. I guess my only option is to move to another city where the costs are more reasonable. -- L.W.
Thursday 8/21/2009: I originally brought to your attention that my electric bill was extremely high last month. I brought to the staff at the billing office that I was also paying double for my trash service, and they promptly fixed it. I thought I might let everyone else know they they might check their bills for similar concerns. -- D.R.

Additional comments welcome ... please indicate city-vs-VVEC-vs-PSO etc and compare current bills with a simllar usage month. -- Ted
