No Incentive To Conserve Water?

I've been bracing myself for a large ONG gas bill this winter with the elevated prices ... but I was not expecting the monster sized city utility bill that arrived in my home mailbox Saturday. I hope my heart is healthy enough that it didn't "skip a beat", but my pulse rate definitely went up when I saw the $33,650 total due. I'll be on my way to the city offices as soon as I have this page online Monday. Appears to me that the negative 7 units of water was not expected in the city utility billing software. So hopefully I can get my $21,077 water bill and $12,499 sewer bill reduced significantly with a new meter reading or a data entry correction. It is nice to know that I would save about $1682 by making my payment on time. -- Ted Wright

P.S. -- I'll update you with results of my visit to city hall ... hopefully it won't mean a move to the "poor farm" for me.

Monday afternoon update: My revised total is now $69.06 (with $6.59 for water and $8.34 for sewer) for a zero use water month. -- Ted

City Manager Pam Polk reported there had been some minor issues during the city hall relocation, introduction of a hand held meter reader unit and new billing software but the city would continue to make improvements and strive toward excellence in all areas.
