Book Discussion: "Arms Wide Open: An Insight Into Open Adoption" Event Description:
Jane Waters will discuss her new book "Arms Wide Open: An Insight
Into Open Adoption." Waters is a licensed marriage and family therapist,
and has worked for more than 20 years in the mental health field. "Arms
Wide Open" provides a window into the lives of young pregnant women
struggling with the decision of making an adoption plan or becoming
a single parent. It is a vital tool for couples considering open adoption
and clearly outlines the emotional turmoil of the birth mothers and
offers suggestions to help make an open adoption a positive experience
for the child, the adoptive parents and the birth mother. You may purchase
copies of the book at the presentation. Book Discussions planned for:

Several customers
have requested that we start up our book club again. We met in September
with 3 people and again in October with 6 people
.so we have decided
to set a regular date and read until our little hearts are content!
Due to the Holidays we will not meet in November and will meet early in December December 1st at 7:00 in the Collinsville Library meeting room. Our regular schedule with be the 4th Thursday of the month .so the first meeting in 2006 will be on January 26th at 7:00. I will email you later about the book for January.
We have chosen two books for our December 1st meeting. Both are short and you may select either or both. The first one is Star Bright by Andrew Greeley and the other is When Christmas Comes by Debbie Macomber. The library has copies on reserve for you so stop by and pick up your book / books. They will definitely put you in a Christmas mood. Macomber will give you several laughs while Greeley will cause you to ponder the true meaning of family and the Holidays.
In the past we have been know to read a book and then taken a road trip which corresponds to the book. We could do that again, we can take part in our adult winter reading program, and who knows what else we may decide to tackle.
I will have tea for all on December 1st. When you read one of the books you will know why we are serving tea. Jann and Sherry I need your tea expertise! I do not have Janns email address so please pass this on to her.
I hope you can join us for the RETURN OF COE, a Collinsville Library reading club that began in the early 1900s. Did you know that when the ladies of Collinsville decided the town needed a library they put on a shower for the library and asked every club in Oklahoma to send a book to the shower? Hence many of our first books were gifts from the whole state of Oklahoma or maybe Indian Territory. I will have to check the date of the shower to see if we were a state yet. I know the efforts to have a library started before statehood.
Bring a friend, sip some tea, laugh with Macomber, think about Greeley and relax for an hour or so in your library.
You will also be able to check out the items on display for the FOCL Silent Auction. Your own private guided tour.
Hope to see you
on December 1st. Susan |
