Theda (Bowline) Werthen, Doug Freeman and Coach Gary Ward were
present for the 2020 Collinsville Athletic Hall of Fame presentations
made between the varsity basketball games here Friday Feb. 14th.
Other 2020 honorees include Ashley (Frogge) Maritz and Ronnie
Delk (who could not attend) and Ron Evans (deceased). |
Gary
Ward -- Coach Ward was Head Coach of boys and girls
basketball and baseball in Collinsville. He went on to lead Yavapai
Junior College to a National Championship in baseball, and was
the Head Baseball Coach at Oklahoma State University and New Mexico
State. During his tenure at OSU, he led the Cowboys to 17 Big
8 Championships and appeared in 10 College World Series. Coach
Ward has been inducted into Hall of Fame classes in Arizona, New
Mexico, Oklahoma, and 3 at the National Level. |
Doug
Freeman -- Doug graduated in the CHS class of 1978.
He was selected All-District and All-State in football, named
to the Tulsa World All-MetroTeam, as well as being named the 1977
District Lineman of the year. Doug played in the 1978 Oil Bowl,
and went on to play center for the Oklahoma State University Football
Team. During his tenure at OSU, Doug was a 3 year starter at Center,
Team Captain in 1982, selected All-Conference in 1982, and was
also Adademic All-Conference. Doug was also a Wrestling Conference
Champion in 1977 and 1978 placing 3rd at the 1978 State Tournament
during his High School career. |
Theda
(Bowline) Werthen -- Theda graduated in the CHS class
of 1985. Theda was a 4 year starter in basketball, and 3 year
starter in volleyball. She was a key member of the 1984 Basketball
State Basketball Championship team, and Basketball Runner-up teams
of 1983 and 1985. She was named All-State in basketball in 1985.
Theda was also selected the 1985 Tulsa Metro Player of the Year,
and a member of the Converse All-American Team. |
Ashley
(Frogge) Maritz -- Ashley graduated in the CHS class
of 1997. SHe led the Volleyball team to the State Tournament her
Sophomore and Senior Years, while also being named the State Tournament
MVP both years. Ashley was selected All-State in Volleyball, and
was named the 1997 Oklahoma Gatorade Player of the Year. She went
on to play Collegiate Volleyball for Texas Tech and the Universityof
Tulsa. During her college career, Ashley made several All-Tournament
teams, and NCAA All-Academic Honors from 1999-2001. She played
professionally in Belgium, and coached Collinsville to the State
Semi-Finals in 2016. |
Ronnie
Delk -- Ronnie graduated in the CHS class of 2000.
He was a 4-time state placer, and a 2-time state champion wrestler.
Ronnie was selected All-State in 2000. Ronnie went on to wrestle
at Oklahoma State University, and was a starter for 4 National
Championship teams while at OSU. He also coached Perry HS to 8
Dual State titles, and 5 Team State titles. Ronnie has been a
4 time OCA Coach of the Year, and was the Perry Head Coach for
their 1000th Dual Victory. He led Perry to a 146-11 record diring
his tenure as Head Coach. |
Ron
Evans -- Ron graduated in the CHS class of 1955. Ron
played basketball during his high school career, and went on to
be a very successful boys and girls basketball coach in Oklahoma
and California. Ron was a dedicated Cardinal sipporter, and rarely
missed any athletic event. He was a fixture on the Collinsville
Education Foundation, Nifty Fifties and other Collinsville organizations.
Ron's influence will forever be felt in Collinsville. |
