Big Lift
At Plaza |
|
Saturday January
20, 2018 -- I noticed it took a massive crane to lift a not-so-massive
light fixture into place at the new city plaza. But that appears
to be the new reality as the city has chosen to block entry for
even a small bucket truck to service that area. -- Ted Wright |

Casey's
General Store Foundation |
|
Forms are in
place now showing the outline of the new Casey's General Store being
constructed on the lot where the former Sale Barn / Clark's Building
used to stand. The store will be closer to Broadway with the open
(gas pump area) on the Main Street end of the block northeast of
9th and Main. The view in these photos is taken from near the alley
behind the Donut Shop ... in case you aren't familiar with the view
now that the historic building has been removed ... looking towards
the railroad tracks. |

Junp Start
On "Safe Routes To School" Project |
|
|
With school
kids out on break (but temperatures often below freezing) workers
took on a small portion of the "Safe Routes To School"
project the city has gotten funding for after several years of waiting.
The top two photos are looking from the Middle School (at Center)
towards Main Street. The total project will eventually cover from
Center to Broadway on both sides of 14th Street for the Middle School
and sidewalks on a small portion of the east side of 129th Street
near the elementaries south of town. Improved crosswalks and signaling
will also also be included in the project. |
|
This one block
portion of the sidewalk upgrade (from Main to Center on the west
side of 14th) was completed in time for the students return to the
Middle School January 4th, after the Christmas / New Year break.
The white pickup is parked in front of the wrestling room in this
view looking from Main Street (that
parking area was also added recently). |
