CARDINAL
FOOTBALL -- Jr. High Update (Coweta) -- 9-8-17
Our 7th grade had a sweet and sour night. The Cardinals
offense controlled the ball in time of possession most of the
night but failed to put points on the scoreboard. Collinsville
loses a tough one 14-0. No injuries were reported.
In the 8th grade game, the Cardinals had a bad taste in
our mouth from the 2016 game. With revenge on our minds the Cardinals
completely dominated every phase of the game. This team is improving
every day. Coach Herald made the comment, they are fun to
coach. Cardinals win a big one 22-6. No injuries were reported.
In the 9th grade game the Cardinals gave the Eye
of the Tiger a black eye. The Boys of Fall were
overpowering in every phase of the game. Cardinals win a big one
28-12. No injuries were reported.
Greatest
Play
The Collinsville Cardinals Jr. High football teams hosted the
Coweta Tiger Thursday night at Sallee Field. The quest for the
Metro Lakes Conference Championship began and I had the opportunity
to see the Greatest Play in my 51 years of playing and coaching.
In our freshman game, Coweta runs a play from about their 30 yard
line and the running back breaks through the LOS. The Cardinal
defenders are in pursuit but are at least 10 yards behind the
running back. Never giving up a Cardinal defensive back gets closer
and closer. Pursuing over 70 yards and at the last moment before
the running back crosses the goal line, the Cardinal Player rips
the ball from the Coweta running back. The ball bounces into the
end zone and the Cardinals recover the loose ball. The result
is one of the most costly mistakes in football, the Cardinals
now gain possession of the ball on their own 20 yard line. The
hustle and desire to catch the running back was tremendous by
the Cardinals. The tenacity of our Cardinal efforts are difficult
to duplicate. Thats why Its great to be a Cardinal
and Im proud to be a Cardinal.
We would like to thank the parents for running the chains during
the games. This is a great service to our program. Anyone who
wishes to be a part of a chain crew, just let us know.
Another big thank you to our Cheerleaders. Your cheers really
get the fans fired up.
The Cardinals travel next Thursday to Tahlequah for another Metro
Lakes Conference match up. Players may ride the bus home with
their own parents after the game. The school address is: 871 Pendleton
St. Tahlequah Ok. We play at the MS field. Seating is limited.
Bring a lawn chair.
Hope to see the Cardinal Family.

Previous
Coverage 2016
Cardinal
Football -- Jr. High Update (Oologah) -- 9-1-17
The
Collinsville Cardinals Jr. High Football teams flew into
Mustang Stadium last night for a non-conference battle
with the Oologah Mustangs. This was the first game of
the 2017 season for both programs and there was great
anticipation from a full house for a rivalry win.
The 7th grade game was a great defensive effort
for both teams. An outstanding goal line effort was the
big difference in the game as the Cardinals shut out the
Mustangs. Cardinals win 6-0. No injuries were reported.
In the 8th grade game the Cardinals dominated all
phases of the game. An outstanding defensive effort allowed
the Cardinals to control the L.O.S. with a crushing running
attack, precise passing game and fabulous kicking game.
Cardinals win 30-8. No injuries were reported.
In the 9th grade contest the Boys of Fall
proved what Cardinal football is all about. The Cardinals
played every down with tenacity and were too overpowering
for the Mustangs. Cardinals win 17-0.
A big thank you to the cheerleaders and fans for the spirit
you gave the players at Oologah.
The Cardinals will host the Coweta Tigers next Thursday
at Sallee Field. Game time is 5pm. We hope the Cardinal
Family will attend and support our teams with great sportsmanship
and enthusiasm.
We would like to thank our Quarterback Club for the T-shirt
and shorts for our players. We look outstanding because
of your support. Also thanks to the parents for the meal
you provided at the Tulsa Edison and Bartlesville scrimmages.
Thanks for your support with our Gold Card campaign. It
was a great success.
