Strong in Pryor (3/22/17)
The girls tennis team performed admirably in Pryor on Wednesday. In fact, the 2-singles and 2-doubles players left Pryor with some hardware hanging around their necks. 2-Singles * Play singles
for the first time this season, check. Tylie had a near flawless match against Grove in the finals. If Tylie were a postage stamp, maybe Grove could have gotten a lick in, but Wednesday, that just wasn't the case. Tylie left Pryor with a gold medal.
Allie Duggar and Lexi Draper started the day with a tough match. They played top seeded Grove. The first two sets ended with a split decision, tied 1-1. The two teams moved into a tiebreaker where Collinsville came up short. Disappointed, but not finished, they proceeded to win their way into the consolation finals match against the Tahlequah Tigers. In this match, Collinsville shifted into high gear. Spectators were treated to a hulk-out. Lexi took over the match at net, putting away anything the Tigers hit at her. She was no less effective from the baseline, ripping forehand winners that tested the durability of Wilson's tennis balls. Late in the second set, the Tigers tried to dig-in and turn things around. They found out, their shovel wasn't big enough. Draper and Duggar finished the day as consolation champs.

Ted Note:
I guess Lexi and Allie made their opponents "green" with envy
.. as this was the photo color I received from Coach Sparks (above)? Lexi's Mom posted the Facebook photo below (from last year ... I think) with their true colors. |
