Smoke Alarm & Fire Extinguisher Collection Event (June 25th)
June 13, 2016

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

THE METROPOLITAN ENVIRONMENTAL TRUST TO HOST SMOKE ALARM AND FIRE EXTINGUISHER COLLECTION EVENT

TULSA-OK The Metropolitan Environmental Trust (The M.e.t.) will provide FREE recycling of smoke alarms and fire extinguishers to residents of Bixby, Broken Arrow, Claremore, Collinsville, Coweta, Glenpool, Jenks, Owasso, Sand Springs, Tulsa and Tulsa County on Saturday, June 25th at the Lowe’s in Midtown located at 1525 South Yale. Residents can bring these items between 9:00 a.m. and Noon.

The M.e.t.’s Executive Director, Graham Brannin, states “We absolutely don’t want folks throwing their old smoke detectors away. There is a radioactive isotope, Americium-241, within the ionization chamber and we do not want that in our ground, air or water sources. It is a small amount, but when you consider all of the smoke alarms in our community-it can add up to quite a bit of a very hazardous substance.”

The M.e.t. will also be accepting fire extinguishers. Citizens with antiquated models in their homes or garages or ones that have simply been used and need to be replaced, are urged to bring them to this event for proper recycling. In addition, the M.e.t. will also be taking mercury thermometers and thermostats.

I'm hoping Tommy will supply just a bit of information to go along with the photo. I believe the rest of the Football Cardinals are at a Passing Camp this week. -- Ted
