Police Dog Visit
Sara Carroll's 3rd Grade Class
Hosted Police Officer Daniel Avery And Police Dog Asko
Daniel Avery purchased his own police dog Asko (and specialized police vehicle), and is a reserve officer for the Collinsville Police Department. Asko is from the Czech Republic and was trained there. Asko will be 7 years old this December and has an excellent sense of smell that is utilized to locate live victims, suspects and drugs. When a suspect is located, Asko can latch on and make the arrest by the human officers much easier. The Herald 3rd grade students of Mrs. Carroll's class were excited to have the two police officers in their classroom and asked questions before a demonstration where Asko located the locker where Office Avery had placed a cotton ball that carried the faint scent of a drug. The white mark over Asko left eye resulted from a scar when he went straight through a barbed wire fence that a suspect had climbed over in an attempt to eacape.
