Successful CHS Academic Team Year
The 2014-2015 season has finally come to an end for the Academic Team. After an outstanding season in OSSAA, including winning the Area Championship and a first ever appearance in the State Tournament, the high school team finished its season at the National Academic Championship in Alexandria, VA. The Collinsville team competed against the best high school teams from across the country and made a great showing. Though they did not make it to the finals, they won games against teams from Fossil Ridge High (CO) and Harrison High (NY) and had close losses of 220/245 against Wynne (AR) and 220/240 to East Coweta (GA). While they were there, the students experienced as much as possible of the capital, including Arlington National Cemetery, the Smithsonian museums, and many of our nation’s most famous monuments.

Team members were Devyn Lyon, Caden Weathers, Kaylyn Branen, Rosa Gorham, Lyndee Branen, Rachel Hadley, Jordan Carney, Sydney Vogel, Daniel Wilson, Spencer Braswell, Dylan Bayouth, and Cannon Vogel, and they were accompanied by Coach Lynn Gowler and Mrs. Mitzi Vogel.

Within days of returning, team captain Cannon Vogel joined the other members of Team Oklahoma, our state’s All-Star Quiz Bowl team for a trip to the National Tournament of Academic Excellence in Orlando, Florida to compete against the best all-star teams from across the country. Team Oklahoma finished third in the nation, only 4 points behind the second place finisher Ohio.
