Cherokee Nation Councilwoman Cara Cowan Watts Appropriates $3,805.53 to Collinsville Police Department

Cherokee Nation Councilwoman Cara Cowan Watts appropriated $3,805.53 of Fiscal Year 2015 Tribal Council Law Enforcement funds to the Collinsville Police Department for an unfunded public safety project.

District 13 was allocated a total of $22,833.20. Councilwoman Cowan Watts chose to appropriate the money evenly across all law enforcement agencies in her District. District 13 includes most of Tulsa County which is within the Cherokee Nation and southwestern portions of Rogers County.

Since taking office in August 2003, Councilwoman Cowan Watts has personally appropriated more than $6,000 in Cherokee Nation car tag monies to the Collinsville Police Department. While Councilman Anglen was in office from 2002 to 2013, he appropriated more than $15,000 to Collinsville Police Department.

Law Enforcement funds are generated by the Cherokee Nation Motor Vehicle Tax or Cherokee Tribal car tags. Law enforcement receives a 20 percent set aside of the net funds generated by Cherokee car tag purchases. Each individual Councilperson determines the actual appropriation amount as well as which agencies receive funds.

Councilwoman Cowan Watts is term-limited out of office in August. District 13 Councilman Buel Anglen was sworn into office during an inauguration ceremony in Tahlequah, OK.
