Cardinal Football -- Jr. High Update for Sept.11th Games at Claremore
The quest for the Metro Lakes Conference Football Championships began this past Thursday night in Claremore. There was plenty of excitement and anticipation as the Claremore Jr. High School Band played the Star Spangle Banner and their school fight song at the opening of the 7th grade contest. The Zebra school band added enthusiasm to the Thursday Night Lights atmosphere.

In the 7th grade game, there was never a doubt about who was the best team. The Cardinal offense was able to move the ball all night. Meanwhile, the Cardinal defense was over-powering and knocked the stripes off the Zebras backs. Cardinals win big, 20-6. No injuries were reported. The 7th grade improve their record to 2-0.

The 8th grade game was a slugfest. The Cardinal defense was punishing and corralled the Zebra offense all night long. The Cardinal offense had plenty of opportunities to score points. However, mistakes kept the Cardinals out of the end zone. The tenacity of the Cardinals’ running game allowed Collinsville to win a big conference game. Cardinals 6, Zebras 0. No injuries were reported. The 8th grade improve their record to 2-0.

The Zebras have a really good 9th grade team. The size and speed of the 6A Claremore Zebras was just too much for the Cardinals. Cardinals gave great effort throughout the contest. We will get better. Zebras win 25-0. No injuries were reported. 9th grade record is 1-1.

Our next action will be September 18th at Sallee Field. We will host the Pryor Tigers in another Metro Lakes Conference contest. Games begin at 5:00pm.

I would like to thank our Cheerleaders for their support of our teams. It is a special feeling a player gets inside of himself when he sees classmates supporting his efforts. Also, I would like to thank our Quarterback Club for the spirit packs and the food they prepare for our games. The T-shirt and shorts look really sharp.

New Park "Shades"
The splash pad and play equipment area on the west side of Collinsville City Park has four new shade structures over the "parent" seating.
Sample Previous Coverage (2012)
Note: The idea for a larger shade structure (over play equipment)
also considered in 2012, was later dropped.
Also note: The city staff has not yet set a firm date to turn off the splash pad water, but will be watching weather forcasts to keep it available as long as the warm weather persists, but still in time to winterize the system before cold sets in.
Homecoming Parade Details
The Homecoming parade will be Friday Oct 3rd at 3:00pm. It will begin from the city park on 15th street and travel east on Main Street to 7th street. Line-up will begin at 2:00 at the City Park. You do not need to sign up to be in the parade. Vehicles must enter the park from the west entrance and exit at the east entrance. During the line-up, the road through the park will be ONE-WAY, for the safety of the children. NO vehicles will be allowed to enter the park from the east entrance. When you get to the parade line-up please don't leave any float unattended until you have been told where to park. All vehicles and/or floats need to pull forward as far as they can in the line-up and park on the right side of the road. There is no specific order! It's first come, first in line, with the exception of the band and royalty who are always at the front. If you want to be next to a specific group then you need to arrive at the same time. It will NOT be possible to "save" a space for any group. Please be aware of this before you arrive. Vehicles not driving in the parade will need to park as far off to the left side of the park road as possible. Please decorate all vehicles/floats.

As always, no 4-wheelers, go-carts, motorcycles, etc. will be allowed. All drivers must be adults. NO current student, regardless of age, may drive a float/vehicle in the parade. Vehicles must also have a passenger to help monitor riders. Floats with elementary children must have adults riding on the floats with the children. No candy may be thrown from any vehicle or float, however, we will allow candy to be tossed by adults walking beside the float. Coaches/parents: please discuss with your children/players the importance of parade safety. The parade is a school sponsored activity so any misbehavior could result in disciplinary actions.

FYI -- The band is helping me with a short video project several minutes before the actual parade starts so don't be overly confused. Hopefully it will all make sense on the graduation video in May 2015. -- Ted Wright 9/15/2014
