CHS Football -vs- Oologah
Cardinals Survive 1st Half Scoring Fest And Add Only 2nd Half Points In 36-27 Season Opener
Rare Thursday Event
Ryan Haymaker (#25) scored the first of his three touchdown runs on this 35 yarder at 8:45 in the first quarter to tie the score at 6-6. Oologah had converted a Collinsville fumble on the first possession into their first of several long TD passes.
Shawn Koscheski (#1) scored on this 10 yard QB keeper at 5:28 in the 1st quarter. Freshman Cole Hadley added the extra point for a 13-6 score.
An Oologah receiver missed this pass from their QB (#7 Payton Craig) and all you can see of Brandon Lowe is a white glove but he came up with the interception for Collinsville at the 38 yard line with 4:38 left in the 1st quarter.
Following Lowe's interception, Ryan Haymaker (#25) reached the 3 yard line on this run (with most of the final yards in a mass of bodies in the photo below) as he refused to be taken down.
The home fans were delighted as Ryan Haymaker kept moving the pile (shown here at about the 8 yard line) down to the 3 yard line.
Ryan Haymaker (#25) covered the final 3 yards on the next play for his 2nd touchdown and after Cole Hadley's kick the Cardinals were ahead 20-6 with 4:11 left in the first quarter.
Shawn Koscheski (#1) scored on this 8 yard 2nd quarter run. After Hadley's kick the score was 26-13 (with Oologah having scored on a 45 yard pass late in the 1st quarter.)
Justin Kothe (#45) didn't have enough shirt grabbed to stop this play (from the Collinsville 27 after Oologah returned the Cards' kickoff there) and the play reached the 15. Oologah scored 2 plays later (13 yard pass) at 5:28 in the 2nd quarter and closed the scoring gap to 26-20.
Brett Erickson (#11) returned Oologah's kickoff all the way down to their 18 yard line but the Cards turned the ball over on downs at the 15. Oologah then drove and scored to take back the lead at 26-27 with 1:43 left in the first half.
Freshman kicker Cole Hadley (#9) kicked a field goal on 4th and 5 from the 10 and 15.9 seconds remaining in the first half. That put Collinsville back in the lead at 29-27. Collinsville declined a roughing the kicker penalty to keep those points on the board and the Collinsville defense kept Oologah out of the endzone for the rest of the evening.
Hall of Fame Coach Terry Due was honored at half time with a glass football (by The QB Club) and was joined on the field by many former players and coaching associates.
Ryan Haymaker (#25) scored his 3rd TD of the night on this 49 yard run at 6:48 in the 3rd quarter. Hadley's kick was good and the eventual final score was reached at 36-27.
Collinsville appeared to have another 3rd quarter touchdown as Shawn Koscheski avoided sacks twice and found Tyler Forest (#81) with a pass he took to the endzone ... but the play was wiped out by a holding call and Collinsville backed up to Oologah's 6 yard line instead.
Several Cardinal tacklers ended the 3rd quarter with this stop.
Levi Draper (#10) brought this Oologah 4th quarter play to a halt.
With the game still in doubt late .. Shawn Koscheski (#1) intercepted an Oologah pass but had it knocked loose as he was headed to the turf ... but Brandon Lowe (#2) scooped it out of the air before it hit the ground to complete the interception play. Oologah had one more posession but the Cards held on for a 36-27 final score.
