Students Working Against Tobacco (SWAT)
"Only One Will Survive" the fun SWAT games with colored water "eliminating" all but 1 of 17 to symbolize the 16 people that die daily in Oklahoma from tobacco related illness. The games (with water baloons, buckets, and squirters) were held on the infield of the CHS track in the morning of May 2nd and then shown to the students on a video later that afternoon during an assembly.
Mike McElroy (Zane's Dad and Chief Operating Officer for AMG Specialty Hospitals in OKC) deals daily with people in the final stages of life after tobacco/nicotine use. McElroy warned the CHS students of the hazards of smoking and second hand smoke and the impacts to themselves and their families. He noted that the E-Cig trend removed some of the poisions inhaled with regular cigarettes but it still has the nicotine which still causes serious health problems. McElroy spoke to the students during the assembly after the SWAT games video was shown.
Christian Moody was declared the winner of the 2nd annual SWAT games.
