Bird Presentation At Middle School
George Miksch Sutton Avian Research Center
"All About Birds"
Multi-Billion Dollar Bird Industry
The Bartlesville based George Miksch Sutton Avian Research Center brought several birds and animals to the Collinsville Middle School Wednesday September. 25, 2013. None was more spectatular than the American Bald Eagle. Although most folks in Oklahoma may have never heard of the University of Oklahoma affiliated research center they say they are world renowned for their work in helping to restore the bald eagle from near extinction several years ago to much healthy numbers today. The pesticide DDT was banned in 1972 and the bald eagle was placed on the endangered species list in 1978 (according a 2007 USA Today Story). The Sutton Center was founded in 1983 with the mission of finding cooperative conservation solutions for birds and the natural world through science and education (according to their web site).
Ty Alexander volunteered to let a crow land on his arm and take a dollar bill from his hand.
I have added a link I hope is to the video mentioned at the CMS assembly today which said the bald eagle at Collinsville today helped film the flight over the Grand Canyon: PBS EarthFlight Video -- North America. It is a 53 minute video so didn't have a chance to confirm ... but the small portion I viewed is amazing even if it is not the correct one. -- Ted Wright -- 2pm Wed. 9/25/2013
