Veterans of Collinsville
(Parade Invite & Thank You) |
Veterans Day is
Monday 11 November. This is a day set aside to pay respect to all those
that have served our country with honor and have made sacrifices so
we can live in a free country. Please take time to thank a veteran for
their sacrifice, if it is a family member, good friend, or just someone
you meet wearing a military hat or in uniform. There is no better reward
than knowing your fellow citizen support you as a veteran that has served
their country with honor. Kevin Lutz |

We want to thank
everyone for the outpouring of kindness you have shown after Brianna's
accident. Many of you already know but for those that do not - Brianna,
Alec, Devon and their cousin Corbin were playing at a relatives home just
North of town on Saturday afternoon about 3:44pm.The kids were all taking
turns ringing the large brass bell (old school house one) that was on
a post next to the home. As one of the kids pulled the chain, the bell
came out of it's saddle and fell a little over 6' and onto Brianna's left
foot. It severed four toes, each at the center joint.
Thankfully I had family around friends who were also there and they took care of Bri for me while I called 911. We are so grateful for our amazing Collinsville Fire and Rescue, Brandon Rake and Matt King, arrived quickly and took care of our girl. They did a wonderful job making her comfortable and getting her to Saint Francis safely! We cannot say enough good things about these two guys! Brianna was all smiles and very positive about her situation the entire time! In fact she was cracking jokes while she was laying in the ER! She was taken into surgery just after 9:00pm and was in recovery by 3:30am Sunday morning. At 5:00am they moved her to a room in the Children's Hospital at Saint Francis. The surgeon was able to reattach two of the toes, but he is still unsure if they will survive at this point. Four days later she is happy to be back home with her brother and sister! We take her back tomorrow morning for a follow-up to reevaluate the replanted toes. We know God has a plan for Brianna and that it was in place before she was even born. We are blessed to still have her! This little girl might only be 10 years-old , but she is by far the strongest person we've ever seen! We want to thank you all for your continued prayers and support! We are grateful to live in this small community of wonderful people! Love - |

Coverage: As many of you know, Brianna Smalygo was playing and a old school bell fell on her foot. She has had surgery to reattach 2 toes and was unable to save the tip of her big toe and 4th toe. There is a fund set up at the Collinsville Family Pharmacy to help the family with expenses they will have during the next few months with prescriptions & dressings. If you wish to donate, please make your donation at the pharmacy in the name of Brianna Smalygo. -- Thanks for all your help. -- Melanie Garrett (Collinsville Public Schools) 10/28/2013 |
