Library Gathers Cards for Heroes
The Collinsville Library will be collecting Christmas cards for the “Holiday for Heroes” program. Oklahoma State Representative, Joe Dorman started collecting the cards to ensure Oklahomans that want to send holiday greetings to recovering soldiers are able to do so.

“Please do not believe the e-mail that is circulating that encourages people to send a card directly to an anonymous soldier. Sending cards in that manner will not be delivered. The e-mail is either a hoax or the good intentions of someone who doesn’t know what they are talking about,” said Dorman, D-Rush Springs, according to a press release on his Web site: http://www.joedorman.com/pressreleases.htm.

This is a wonderful way to show your support to our brave service men and women. You can bring your own already addressed holiday cards to the Collinsville Library for mailing or, the library has cards available you can address. Cards need to be returned to the library before Thursday, December 5.

Please follow the guidelines below in order for your card to be delivered promptly.

· Cards can be addressed to “Dear Service Member” or a specific recovering individual at Fort Sill.

· Make sure your card is signed

· Do not send letters

· Do not include your email or home address

· Do not include inserts of any kind, including photos

· Do not use glitter

The holiday season is a great time to show our troops how much we care and support their service to our great country. The Collinsville Library is also a drop off site for the Tri-County Blue Star Mothers. For a list of items to donate to this program, visit their Web site: www.tricountybluestarmothers.com/.

Prosecutor / Defense Attorney Spoke To Mrs. Rowden's Current Events Classes Nov. 12th
Claremore Attorney Wade Fathree has both prosecuted and defended clients (including juveniles) in Mayes and Craig Counties. In hopes that these Collinsville Middle School students would never find themselves in that position, he explained the juvenile justice system to them. He also explained that in certain more serious crimes that juveniles would be moved into the adult criminal system. He explained differences between misdomeanors and felonies and the more serious life long consequences of being a felon. He explained that drug cases were the most frequent he had dealt with with youth but they were many other types of crimes also. He expressed hope for alternative (drug court) treatment plans.
Mrs. Rowden explained that her class had held a mock court and discussed several legal topics before his presentation Nov. 12th.
