the State Department of Education's 2013 Summer Reading Program - Read
5 for Summer. Gov. Fallin and Supt. Barresi will read to students and
give students, their parents and teachers information about the State
Department of Education's Summer Reading Program.

WHY: Research shows
that if children read five books at their Lexile level during the summer
it helps get them off to a productive and enjoyable school year of learning.
More importantly, it helps develop lifelong readers who understand the
importance of balancing reading to learn and reading for enjoyment.
A Lexile shows either an individual's reading ability or the difficulty
of text in a book. School and public librarians and elementary teachers
throughout the state are ready to assist parents in finding their child's
Lexile score. In addition, parents can visit the State Department of
Education's website to find out more about Lexile measures and to find
appropriate books to read.
