Last Month As Chamber Director |
Jerry Bayless (an AT&T representative) was invited by Representative Sears to followup on a concern raised at the January 2013 chamber meet before the legislative session began. That concern was the lack of internet access to certain Collinsville rural areas. Although he did not provide specifics, Bayless indicated AT&T was "working on upgrades constantly" and has a 3 year plan in progress for $14 billion in improvements in this part of the state. |
Sample topics discussed
by our District 11 Oklahoma State Representative (Earl Sears): * Oklahoma is unprepared for Obama Care ... a special session is likely as plans must be in place before it starts in 2014 * Pensions * Crowded Prisons * Future looks good ... keep moving Oklahoma forward * Oklahoma has recovered quite nicely from economic downturn (energy driven) (4.7% unemployment compared to 7.9% nationally) * Oklahoma Rainy Day Fund has $577 million now * $7.1 billion state budget * fund core government first (transportation, health care, foster/DHS, public education ...) * Disagrees with elimination of state income tax but OK with planned decreases in rates * Repair of State Capitol will be funded by a 1 year delay in state tax decrease (5.25% to 5%) * Still working to tighten up use of tax credits and exemptions (need reviewed criteria) |
