CARDINAL FOOTBALL --
JR. HIGH UPDATE
9-21-12 -vs- Tahlequah

-- By Coach Tom Redding
The 7th, 8th, and 9th grade football teams made the journey to Tahlequah Thursday night to capture a Metro Lakes Conference victory. The Tahlequah Tigers are always known to have big linemen and tough running backs. All week long our players were told “what we did last year, doesn’t matter….it’s what we do now that counts”.

In the 7th grade game the Tigers and Cardinals trade scores during the first half of the contest. The Cardinals could not contain the Tiger offense in the 4th quarter. Tigers win 34-20. KT McCoy received a good ankle sprain during the second half which removed him from the game. With the lose of Logan Sieminskie and KT the Cardinals are getting pretty thin at running back.

The 8th grade contest was dominated by great effort from the Cardinals offensive and defensive units. A powerful running attack and a precision air attack, the Cardinals offense was fun to watch. The defense was strong and punishing all night. With a score of 36-0 at half and a running clock for the Tigers, the Cardinals began to play all of our players. Final score is 36-18. The Cardinals improve it conference record to 3-0. Noah Salazar has reported to have broken his collar bone. We wish him a speedy recovery.

The night’s final contest, the Cardinal 9th grade made a statement to the Tahlequah Tigers, three in a row! Don’t mess with us. With Tahlequah being in our high school district, the freshmen have a huge physiological advantage over the Tigers for next year. Every phase of the game was dominated by the Cardinals. We out hit and out played the Tigers. We are showing a lot of heart and the “The Boys of Fall” are getting better and better each game. Cardinals win 26-0. No injuries were reported. The 9th grade improves its conference record to 3-0.

Special thanks go out to the quarterback club for the drinks and snack they provided to the athletes. It takes so many individuals to make our program a success. The teachers, administration, support staff, concession attendants, press box staff, chain crews, cheerleaders, student trainers, parents and fans.

It takes trust in one another to help sculpture our students into future productive citizens. We are a part of this co-curricular activity to help give our kids a foundation for their future. Let us as adults be positive and strong with each other. It’s for the kids.

As Coach Riley says…it’s great to be a CARDINAL!

Coach’m up
