CARDINAL FOOTBALL -- Jr. High Update
--
September 28, 2012 -vs- Coweta
“Perpetual Performances” of offense, defense, and the kicking game, were in harmony for the Collinsville Cardinals Thursday night, as there was no “Eye of the Tiger” theme song, for the Coweta Tigers.

Just before dark, game night, there were dark rain filled clouds approaching from the west towards Sallee Field. As I looked towards the visitors sideline I noticed one of the most beautiful sites of nature I have ever witnessed. Rays of sunshine pierced through the overcast skys with a bean of sunlight on the Collinsville Cardinal symbol located on the city water tower located just east of Sallee Field. This act of nature seemed to represent what the night was going to be all about.

The Cardinals put together a punishing running attack and an aerobatic passing performance all night. The Cardinals swarmed the Coweta running backs in a bend but not break defensive attitude. It was a great performance as the Collinsville Cardinals dominated their Metro Lakes Conference opponent in the 8th and 9th grade games. Since joining the 5A conference three years ago, the Cardinals are 8-1 against the Tigers in Jr. High competition. Coweta is a high school 5A 4 District opponent in 2012 & 2013.

The 7th grade put together their best performance of the year, but three big plays by the Tigers were too much to overcome. Tigers win 21-6. No injuries were reported.

The scores:

8th Grade: 28-18 Cardinals win! 8th grade improve their conference record to 4-0. No injuries were reported.

9th Grade: 35-6 Cardinals win! 9th grade improve their conference record to 4-0. No injuries were reported.

The Cardinals next action is against Metro Lakes Conference opponent, Pryor. The game is here with kick-off at 5:00.

Thanks to the QB Club for the spirit packs. Each player received a nice dry fit t-shirt and a pair of shorts for practice.

The 7th & 8th grade games were played with just a bit of occasional misting rain but before the sun set, it peeked through the clouds for a rainbow and highlighted view of the water tower (during the 8th game).
Wayne Arnold supplied these sample photos from the 9th grade game -vs- Coweta. I left after the 8th grade game with my camera batteries already spent. -- Ted
