Tulsa Health Department Offers Free Health Screenings in Collinsville

(Tulsa, OK) The Tulsa Health Department's Know Your Numbers program invites you to free health screenings at the Collinsville Health Center, located at 1201 West Center, beginning on Monday, December 10th from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Routine monthly screenings will be offered the second Monday of each month from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on a walk-in basis throughout 2012-2013.

The screening tests are open to adults 18 years or older and include: blood pressure, full lipid panel (cholesterol, HDL, LDL, and triglycerides), hemoglobin (anemia), glucose A1c (no fasting required), body mass index (BMI), waist to hip ratio measurements, and test results reviewed with a health mentor.

“The Know Your Numbers program makes it easy for individuals to be aware of their biometric numbers by offering their results on-site. Individuals have a private consultation with a Registered Nurse or Registered Dietitian in order to understand their numbers and learn how to improve or maintain their health.” said Jill Almond, wellness coordinator at the Tulsa Health Department.

Know Your Numbers, part of the Tulsa Healthy Pathways Project, is a grant-funded program that offers free health screenings and follow up referrals for individuals in specific areas of Tulsa County for up to three years.

For more information about the Know Your Numbers program, please contact Rosaline Cupples at 918-595-4088 or rcupples@tulsa-health.org. Additional information is available at www.tulsa-health.org.

Get Answers for
Medicare Questions at Tulsa Event
For Immediate Release:
November 6, 2012

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma Insurance Commissioner John D. Doak announced a Medicare question and answer event to be held in Tulsa Nov. 9-10. Medicare counselors will be on hand from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Reasor’s on 71st and Sheridan to answer questions related to Medicare open enrollment.

“This is a great opportunity to get answers to all your Medicare questions. You can talk face-to-face with counselors from the Oklahoma Insurance Department’s Medicare Assistance Program (MAP),” Doak said. “We urge you to take advantage of this opportunity before making important Medicare decisions.”

Medicare open enrollment began Oct. 15 and ends Dec. 7. During the open enrollment period, Medicare-eligible consumers can sign up for coverage and Medicare recipients can elect to change their options for the coming year.

“Oklahomans who consult with MAP counselors before enrolling could save hundreds of dollars on their Medicare plans. That’s why it’s vital for seniors to take advantage of this free event,” Doak said.

Personalized Medicare counseling is also available over the phone. Oklahomans in the Tulsa area can call (918) 664-9000 or (918) 584-7526 for Medicare assistance. Medicare beneficiaries outside the Tulsa area can call (800) 763-2828.

Collinsville FFA - US Finals Team-Roping
Rodeo events are a very historical part of agriculture and with out the skills that are exhibited in these rodeo events agriculture wouldn’t be what it is today. Most of us don’t put Team Roping and agriculture together when realistically the two go hand-in-hand. There are many groups out to shut down all rodeo events because they think the animals are being abused. My question to you is this: think back 100-150 years, how did people run ranches without four-wheelers, trucks, etc? Now that you have that pictured my next question is how are we supposed to catch livestock (whether it is horses, cattle, goats, or other) when they are not tame animals unless we rope them? How are we supposed to ride a horse without first breaking it to ride which a skill demonstrated in the bronc riding event. October 20-28, 2012 two Collinsville FFA members, Shay Walters and Dalton McCoy, had the opportunity to compete in the US Finals Team Roping Event. Dalton McCoy (scores posted below) did excellent and placed in the #9 Shoot out and won another with a time of 7.12 (scores are given by who completed the task in the least amount of time). Shay Walters had a bad run of luck as he and his teammate were unable to get a score.

Hannah's Helping Hands, Inc. — Our Mission
We are a non-profit 501(c)3 organization providing financial assistance to families with children battling cancer. Many families need help with the most basic needs for their families during this fight for their child’s life. Some must leave work for months and even years to care for their sick child and the financial loss can be devastating. Our goal is to help as many families being treated locally as possible. We help with basic needs such as gas & food cards, groceries, wigs, utility payments, prescriptions, medical co-payments, rent/housing as well as other expenses. Our referrals come from doctors, nurses and staff at a local children’s hospital in Tulsa as well as our local communities.
