Patchworkers June Meeting
The Collinsville Patchworkers met June 12, 2012 to elect officers for the coming year, and make plans for the July 15 Quilt Show as part of the scheduled activities during the Smithsonian Exhibit "The History of Food." Chosen for the July 2012 - June 2013 year were: President - Tonya Rosamond; Vice President - Rosie Vaught; Media - Linda Pfeffer; Roster - Audrey Engles; and Web News - Patti Schneider. Members also voted to continue contributing to Newborns In Need as the club's official charity for the coming year.

Changing the usual format of future meetings, the Patchworkers decided to volunteer individually in providing instructional programs for each meeting, and Chris Pierce offered to organize a monthly Block Exchange for those interested in participating.

Details were shared regarding a Fall Shop Hop tour organized by The Log Cabin Quilt Shop in Bixby, and "any type of floral fabric" was chosen for the July "nickel exchange" (one fabric fat quarter cut into twelve 5" squares).

NFIB/Oklahoma: Rep. Earl Sears Earns 100% Voting Record on Small-Business Issues
OKLAHOMA CITY, June 13, 2012 -- Jerrod Shouse, state director of the National Federation of Independent Business, said today that Earl Sears achieved a 100 percent voting record in the 2011-12 legislative sessions.
"Small business is the engine that drives Oklahoma's economy," Shouse said. "By supporting small business, Earl Sears is supporting working families and the community."
"Earl Sears has stood up for Oklahoma's employers and job creators time and time again on important issues such as workers' compensation reform and unemployment fraud," Shouse said. "Our members truly appreciate the efforts of Earl Sears to help grow Oklahoma's economy and create jobs.
Small businesses account for 98% of private-sector employers in Oklahoma, and they employ over half of the non-government workforce.
To achieve a 100 percent NFIB/Oklahoma voting record, Earl Sears voted "yes" on legislation:
-- Reforming the state's workers' compensation system.
-- Capping non-economic damages resulting from a lawsuit at $350,000.
-- Discouraging frivolous lawsuits by requiring defendants to pay only their percentage of fault
-- Cutting the cost of state-issued decals for coin-operated vending machines and amusement devices in half.
-- Allowing defendants in a civil action to pay damages of $100,000 or more in periodic payments rather than in a lump sum.
-- Making the state's workplace drug-testing statue more employer-friendly by empowering the employer when determining if a drug test should be administered, and when an employee refuses to be tested.
-- Curbing unemployment fraud by cracking down on those who knowingly continue to receive unemployment benefits after securing a new job and requiring those who file for unemployment to provide proof they are actively seeking a job.
-- Sending to a vote of the people a measure that exempts intangible personal property from ad valorem taxes.“I am honored to receive this recognition and I will continue to be a champion for the small business owner,” said Sears, R-Bartlesville.

Unexpected Downtown Visitor. Not sure where it came from or where it went, but there was a beaver (or wood chuck?) under a car parked on Main Street today about 2pm (in front of the News Office) -- Ted 6/16/2012
Collinsville had another set of visitors pass through Collinsville Saturday (during the Smithsonian Grand Opening) as hundreds of motorcycles (many more than in this one photo) as part of a run sponsored by Guts Church. 6/16/2012
