Preliminary Conference Track Results
& 7th Grade Recognition
Special Class: Collinsville's 7th grade class won 7 Metro Lakes Conference Championships. In the fall they won VB, XC and Ftbl. The only thing that kept it from being a sweep of the fall sports is that Sftbl does not have a Conference tournament. They did sweep the winter sports by winning the Conference tournament in girls and boys bskbl and the JH wrestling tournament. Yesterday, the 7th grade girls added the 7th Metro Lakes Championship at the conference track meet. Not bad. -- Jim Riley 4/29/2012
The 7th grade girls and the 8th grade boys won 1st place in the Metro Lakes Conference track meet today in Tahlequah. I will get back to you with placings of the other girls teams. -- Jim Riley 4/28/2012
Note: I hope to followup on both these topics after I get the 2012 Senior Pages under control. I took a new photo of the 7th grade basketball boys Friday. I've been trying to schedule track team photos for more than a week now. -- Ted Wright (Sunday 4/29/2012)

Underage Drinking Prevention -- Town Hall Meeting (April 26th)
ABLE Commission Agent Erik Smoot showed several examples of deceptive packaging used by some product manufacturers to either tarket youth or allow youth to hide the high alcohol content from their parents (as whip cream or energy drinks, etc). A small group of residents met at Collinsville City Hall Thursday to discuss the potential scope of alcohol and prescription drug issues in Collinsville and possible solutions.
Captain Daniel Boggs indicated recent compliance checks of local merchants netted 3 of 15 allowing alcohol sales to underage youth. Boggs also speculated the percentage of youth who drink or have experimented is higher than most adults would guess. Discussion indicitated education as one approach to help kids make better decisions but also indicated agencies already tasked with that education continue to see decreased funding.
Sareva Greenhaw described the tragic 2004 death of her 16 year old son Cody due a "social hosting" environment at a friend's house which led to the 2011 approval of Cody's Law providing specific laws against social hosting in Oklahoma. Cody's death resulted from a mixture of prescription drugs and alcohol.

A Different Moth?
A neighbor brought this strange looking moth by this morning hoping someone could identify it. Not like any moth I've ever seen? In flight, the underside of the wings were light brown. -- Ted 4/27/2012
