Soccer Player of the Week October 31 - November 7, 2011

Ricci Smith
Northern Oklahoma College

WOMEN'S SOCCER Ricci Smith, Freshman - Collinsville, OK. "Any number of players could have been named player of the week. Jade Ovendale for scoring two game winners to lead the Mavericks to their first ever national tournament, Megan Young for dominating the midfield and scoring what probably was the NJCAA goal of the year in the district final, and Ashleigh Trainer who made save after save to preserve two victories. Ricci Smith is the player of the week. Ricci has played three games at a very high level with a torn ACL. Her athleticism and work rate in the midfield were a crucial part of Northern's run to the national tournament."- Coach Duroy.

The NOC women's soccer team won the District Tournament championship held in Independence, Mo. last Saturday defeating Lewis and Clark College 2-1. The Lady Mavs advanced to the championship game after a 1-0 victory over number ten ranked Blue River College. Their record now stands at 13-4-1.

Northern will compete in the national tournament November 17-20 at Melbourne, Florida. Game times and opponents will be announced when they are available.
