The
light poles for the phase II streetscape were installed Friday March 4th. One
in front of the Fire/EMS building is being lifted into place and being bolted
down while one near the pharmacy waits its turn in this photo.
The
center turn lane stripes and arrows were applied on the west end of the two
block project Thursday March 3rd. The west end had been painted earlier.
The
completion of the 13th and Main parking lot (shared by The Collinsville Dolton
Funeral Home, The First Baptist Church, and the City of Collinsville) took a
big step last Thursday (March 3rd) when as asphalt was applied and smoothed.
The lot has since had the parking stripes painted.

With
the light poles and irrigation systems ready, plants started appearing on the
west end of the streetscape project Saturday March 5, 2011. There were also
trees waiting to be planted when I walked by today (March 9th).
Utility
relocation continues from 14th Street all the way to the high school as prep
work for the S-Curve realignment and 4-laning progresses.

The
east end of the streetscape project is not quite as far along with irrigation
system dirt work still in progress today (i.e. no plants yet).
The
photos at the top of the page show positive progress. These are less positive
as curb damage (above, next to Silver Dollar Cafe) is likely the result of snow
removal back at the beginning of February and will need repair in the already
completed Phase I streetscape area.
Editorial:
I'll start with the disclaimer that the local Library staff is not to blame
...before I add another photo of what I consider a step backwards at our Library.
With recent revisions there are now three downspots dumping rain water and then
washing dirt (and sometimes ice) onto the sidewalk directly in front of the
main entrance. Years ago that drain was routed under the sidewalk and into a
conduit that was added to the curbing. Why that solution is now being bypassed
continues to baffle me and frustrate me as a tax payer as our money is being
wasted for worse results? (This in addition to stairs
being placed on the roof?). -- Ted Wright 3/9/2011
