This photo (showing the two buildings involved) as asphalt was being applied and leveled on the new parking lot on the NE corner of 13th & Main was taken March 3rd.
I received an email tip about 9:30pm Sunday that there had been a fire and took two photos (F.D. above & garage below) of the area between the Collinsville Fire Department west wall and the east wall of the garage housing vehicles for the Collinsville Dolton Funeral Home. The funeral home vehicles were not damaged. --Ted
I don't have any official report yet, but it appears this flexible piping material was the source of the flames. The cause of the fire is still being investigated. (Check back for an update when available). I'm speculating the material is related to the on-going streetscape or parking lot construction nearby. -- Ted
At the 7pm City Commission Meeting Monday City Manager Pam Polk reported the fire was "still under investigation" and provided no additional details. -- Ted 11pm 3/7/2011
I just searched through all my recent streetscape photos and located this Feb. 20th view of the March 6th fire site. -- Ted 11:35pm 3/7/2011

This is an exact copy of the information that I finally received today (April 5, 2011) from City Manager Pam Polk in reference to the fire between the fire department and funeral home garage on March 6th. I had received no hint of official information on or before the March 25th date flagged on this letter and was surprised to see a "press release" referenced by my competitor's newspaper last week and I immediately requested an official comment from the city then, as I don't take my news from my competitor.

I have no problem with the city withholding information until they had finished their initial investigation but am disappointed the information was then selectively released. -- Ted Wright 4/5/2011
