Horrible Web Site (Again)
Ted Note: I had been waiting for a reply from the email exchange below but will go ahead and share with my "clueless" users that have to suffer with this "horrible" web site that has apparently become a negative classroom example in Virginia.-- 8/17/2011

Subject: your website

Your website is horrible. I am currently in a class examining why websites do and do not work, and yours has been cited as one that is absolutely horrible. The user has no clue about this. This needs to be redesigned if you want to be taken seriously as a business.

Joseph Quam,
Virginia
----------------
Joseph,
Thank you for your concern. It was not designed for anyone other than the people of Collinsville, Oklahoma that seem quite happy with the content and don't care that the frame format which I use to favor those paying the bills (i.e. my local brick & mortar advertisers) is not "in style" anymore.Your comments are of no value without stating why you have reached your conclusion. Google seems to navigate it just fine also. The fact that users "have no clue" speaks volumes ... ie maybe what you are being taught is not necessarily true for this particular case. -- Ted Wright -- www.cvilleok.com -- Aug. 9th, 2011

I do enjoy these random critques from "outsiders" but all kidding aside for my serious daily viewers ... if you have any functional issues with the cvilleok.com web site please let me know (wrightted@aol.com). The software and techniques I use are over 10 years old and there are likely improvements I could consider if I was aware of your issues. -- Ted

Note: I get occasional information from the Simon Estes Educational Foundation as they provided a substantial financial assistance to my daughter Emily's (CHS 2003) college education. I was pleasantly surprised to see Addie (CHS 2007) listed this week. -- Ted Wright 8/17/2011

CODE RED FOOTBALL 2011 – GO CARDS!

Joseph,

In reviewing "all of your credentials" of what you do, and what you have done. A couple of things that are missing would be tact and doing your homework, Before just knocking out an e-mail to someone bashing their choice of how they put together a web site, that they personally put together on a daily basis, many hours each day, of each week, over the last 10 years. And this gentleman does this for use of 5000 of his neighbors. He asks them for nothing but gives above and beyond. He has been an information service for city, school, and non profit organizations. He has been a maker of memories in words and pictures for hundreds of families. A place that a parent or grandparent can see their child in action in a sport, or in the band, or just at a city event. A coming together place where a community can go to find what is happening and has happened during the last few days or week. A place where family and friends can go to pay respect to a one that has recently past away.
Before just knocking out an e-mail putting down the "Work" of someone you absolutely know nothing about. Do the one thing that somehow has slipped through the cracks in all of your experiences, a more concise job of doing your homework.
This man is not man that has a huge budget to purchase the newest and best of communication technology. But does with what He has. But is rich with admiration and gratitude of a community for his hard work and devotion to making that community a better place to live and raise a family.

Regards,
Ron Phelps (8/23/2011)

Just another one of those thankful neighbors of Mr Ted Wright of Collinsville, Oklahoma
Thank you Ron, I appreciate that. -- Ted
Amen to Ron Phelps, very well said! Keep the great local info coming Ted. -- Tim Prock 8/23/2011
Mr. Phelps,

Thank you very much for letting me know more about the person that designed your community's website. This person's dedication to his community is not in question. His design methodology is. I examined the site from an analytic perspective, not a personal one. I look at factors like Information Architecture, Search Engine Optimization, Design Flow, among others. In brief, the site is not easy to use. It is cluttered. It can be much better, retain the same information, and offer your community users a better facility for getting to all the points of information you mention. And it doesn't take "newest and best of communication technology." Rather, a couple hours spent looking at basic web design principles would, I'm sure, produce a site that is easier for the citizens to use.

However, if your town is happy with the website, that is all that matters.

Regards,

Joseph Quam (8/24/2011)

The more I read Joseph's statement. The more I come to the conclusion that Joseph wants to use his big city attitude to try to crush the spirit of the small town values. It really doesn’t matter to most what format is used, but that the info is correct.

Keep up the good work.

Terry Lisowski (8/24/2011)

In reading the emails regarding your website.

I would like you to know my husband designs websites (he designed the crimson cadets website) and he enjoys your format. It's clean and easy to find what is happening or has happened in a day or weeks or months at time. It is our homepage on our computer. The service you provide is greatly needed and appreciated.

I'm appalled with the nerve of people and their lack of common decency and uneducated opinion and clearly needs to be educated on how the community of Collinsville feels and appreciates you.

We want to thank you for your endless effort on the Cvilleok website. Keep up the good work

Paula & Charlie Brown (8/27/2011)
