Patchworkers Help Veterans Building Fund
The Collinsville Patchworkers met March 9, 2010 and presented a quilt to the American Legion Auxiliary. Various Patchworker members created the different "house blocks," and Rosie Vaught put the quilt together. Marie Gillespie accepted the quilt, which will be used as a fundraiser for work needed on the Veterans' Building on Main Street. Built 60 years ago with Collinsville brick, the building has had many updates and improvements, but now is in dire need of major repairs. The building stands as a memorial to all veterans - and with the community's help, Mrs. Gillespie hopes to raise enough funds to maintain the building's integrity.

Winter Paralympics in Vancouver
Logan Shaw sent a message to the members of Get adaptive sports noticed.

"Hello everyone. Just wanted to say thanks to everyone for joining and leaving some great links on the groups wall and asking questions about different sports and wanting to get involved with them. For everyone that doean't know, the winter paralympics opening ceremony will be today and then events start saturday. There are some really amazing athletes in these games and they will blow your mind. The first time i saw some of the sports being done i was in awe. You can check them out at http://www.facebook.com/l/89d95;www.vancouver2010.com/paralympic-games, http://www.facebook.com/l/89d95;www.universalsports.com, http://www.facebook.com/l/89d95;www.youtube.com/user/ParalympicSportTV, and http://www.facebook.com/l/89d95;www.paralympicsport.tv.
That all that i know of right now but ya check it out, it's pretty sweet thanks much!"

Note: I had heard (after the fact) that Logan participated in a wheelchair basketball tournament recently (in Tulsa) and had hoped to gather info for a followup, but haven't gotten it done yet. But these televised sports are this week so wanted to pass this along before it was too late. Please join the Facebook group above for adaptive sports. -- Ted
More RSU Softball News
"Freshman Linsey Curtis got the Cats back in it with one swing of the bat. Katie Bointy walked to start the sixth and Hernandez and Sara Harvey followed with singles to load the bases. Curtis belted a grand slam over the centerfield wall to bring RSU back to within one run. The Collinsville, Okla., native has swatted 13 home runs in just 22 collegiate games and is now just one homer shy of tying the single-season record set by Jenny Johnson in 2009." -- a snippit from the March 11, 2010 RSU Sports Info Department news release for a doubleheader split against the University of Science and Arts Wednesday in Chickasha, Okla.

Collinsville Athletic Department
Endorses Foxwood Sports

Foxwood Sports will be doing a Athletic Schedule Poster for the Collinsville Fall and Winter Athletic teams next year. Cardinal AD Jim Riley would like to let all Collinsville merchants know that Foxwood Sports is the only group that we are endorsing for a schedule poster. Riley would also like any merchant that has a question about any fundraiser to contact him.
This a sample of the Foxwood Sports calendar (which will eventually be updated with Collinsville sports photos and schedules). This was discussed at the March 8th, 2010 School Board meeting.
Mini-Editorial: Although this is a competitor to my sales of advertising to local merchants (which is the only funding for this web site and the Newspaper Museum In Collinsville), I recommend my advertisers to check it and and support if they can as the school hopes to get a percentage of those calandar ad sales. And please continue to support a variety of other local groups that raise funds by selling ads in various formats. And as always I will have any available sports schedule (not just CHS) on this cvilleok.com web site: (sample).
