Play Away Day (March 9th)
With Sonic Coupons for
Free Cherry Limeades and Ice Cream Cones

Have you heard? Collinsville Library has
a better way to listen to audiobooks!

If you aren’t familiar with Playaways, you’ll want to check them out. A Playaway is a small audio player that comes preloaded with an entire audiobook, regardless of length. You don’t need a separate player, and you don’t have to worry about several cassettes or CDS… just press play! It’s perfect for people of all ages and gives you the portability to catch up with a good book wherever you are. Plus, they’re small enough to carry around in your pocket – so your favorite book can go anywhere you do!

Join us at the Collinsville Library on March 9, 2010 1:00-7:00pm for our very own Play Away Day. Friends of the Collinsville Library will serve refreshments, have a large selection of titles for you to peruse, and a free lanyard for the first 20 customers who check out a PlayAway. Sonic will provide coupons for free cherry limeades and ice cream cones for all who try out the PlayAway.

New Library Parking Lot Started
Heavy equipment arrived at the Collinsville Library Wednesday March 24th and have been moving dirt, old sidewalks, and apparently an old water line? (based on the note above). The end result will be a paved one-way parking lot with traffic entering from Main Street and exiting at the alley (purple area below from the Streetscape II plans drawing).

10 Year Celebration of the New and Improved Collinsville Library Planning In Progress

Our anniversary date is April 6, 2000… I would like to work with the week of April 5-10 as a week to update your library card, apply for a library card if you are new to the area, check out our collection, meet the staff, etc. etc….still working on the details. -- Susan Babbitt (2/17/2010)

The Collinsville Library (built in 1916-17 with Andrew Carnegie grant money) underwent a major rennovation in 1999 with the interior of the building stripped and a substantial addition on the back (including the elevator and bay window) expanding and modernizing the building space.

During the 1999 Library building rennovations the books and daily operations were temporarily relocated to the building now housing Too Blonde Salon in the 1100 Block on Main Street. That particular location was also listed as "Library" in a 1906 insurance listing of Collinsville Main Street lots. There had been several locations for the community library before the present building was completed in 1917.
