This plan for adding a new asphalt overlay to city streets was provided by the City of Collinsville this week. I have not seen the plan (generated by city street supervisor Steve Jones) discussed before the city commission since July so will assume it is tentative pending formal approval. The funding for the asphalt material comes from the additional city sales tax approved by voters back in April 2009. Several other city improvements are also still pending: jail, splash pad, skate park, playgrounds, 19th St. Bridge replacement, sidewalk to park, 2 block extension of Main Street streetscape, ...etc.

Just wondering: are the city north - south numbered roads officially "streets" or "avenues"?

This map has a mix of both. I've always know them as St. but I guess maybe the Tulsa Co / 911 system makes them Ave? or would that even apply in town? (i.e it's either 19th St. or 113th E. Ave)-- Ted

July Worst Street Comments

Ted: Just read your article and looked at the map outlined by the city as to the asphalt overlays which are upcoming. One street that I can't understand why it is not being considered being resurfaced is 17the from Broadway north to Maple. That street runs just west of my house, but that is not my concern. 17th is a major school bus route and delivery route for Wilson Elementary School. It isn't the worst street in town, but is fast crumbling and if it isn't fixed now it probably will be later. Our busses certainly deserve a better street. Thanks Ron Evans. (9/24/2009)
