POW/MIA Recognition Day

POW/MIA Recognition Day honors the commitments and the sacrifices made by our nation's prisoners of war and those who are still missing in action.

By custom, it is on the third Friday in September.
National POW/MIA Recognition Day is one of the six days specified by law on which the black POW/MIA flag shall be flown over federal facilities and cemeteries, post offices and military installations.

During the month of September, the Collinsville Library will feature a POW/MIA Remembrance Day display provided by the local Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States, Post 3077 and it's Ladies Auxiliary.

The Library is located at 1223 Main and the hours are noon to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, noon to 5 p.m. on Friday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays. The display case is located on the lower level of the library (elevator accessible). In addition to the POW/MIA memorabilia, pictures of Collinsville veterans from WWII, Korea and Vietnam who were killed in action have been included in the display. We hope all will find time to stop by the library to reflect on the memorabilia.

Moving Day
That's a two-story house moving along east Broadway Wednesday morning (Aug. 26th). I'm not sure where it came from nor where it ended up. The Collinsville Police provided traffic control as the unexpected arrival it made it's way through town. This view is looking east from 11th & Broadway. -- Ted
Patchwork Quilters
Audrey Engles displays a small Wedding Ring quilt, as Rosie Vaught and Chris Pierce look on.
The Collinsville Patchworkers met August 11, 2009 at the Library, and welcomed newcomer Janet Teal. Members voted to create a quilt to donate to the American Legion's "roof fund," and Mary Wood won the Fat Quarter drawing. Several quilts of all sizes were donated to the Cherokee Project and also Newborns In Need. Sept. 12 is scheduled for the next "sew-in" day at the Library, and is open to visitors.
